Sonic has been the main cause of most of the plots since Unleashed. In Unleashed he stops to gloat at Eggman, which gets the Chaos Emeralds drained of power. In Colors, he actually doesn't even figure out Eggman's actual plans, and he beats him entirely by accident. Hilariously, in Generations his past self even manages to get Classic Eggman in the open for Modern Eggman to steal him away.

I feel bad for laughing at this but daisies it's true, ever so true and yeah the more I think about it (after reading Galaxy Man's post) Sonic is quite the blundering moron that messes stuff up, the reason for Eggmans defeat in Sonic Colours made me so conflicted... I wasn't sure if I was supposed to laugh or cry and I think I ended up doing both, Unleashed had me laughing like a maniac because thanks to Sonic Eggman actually managed to build Eggmanland and had his butt handed to him at the same time!

Actually, in Colors, Sonic was immediately on to Eggman's nonsense the moment he heard about the space park. Granted, he didn't know about the fine points until close to the very end, but it was obvious to him that big robots guarding a specific area means you should go check it out and do the opposite of what Eggman wants. Actually, now that I think about it, Tails translated what the Boost alien (don't recall his name) said about what Eggman was doing and I'm pretty sure Sonic knew what the deal was before Eggman spelled everything out.
