So they're basically terrorists for hire.
But reading this makes me kinda sad. Comparing this to the DB of Oblivion it looks like the majority of members now is like that orc guy from Oblivion.

There's actually reasoning behind it. The Dark Brotherhood IS almost dead. If they stuck to their usual tactics, they wouldn't bring the fear they usually do. They have to let people know, yes, they're still there and alive.

Keep in mind the DB was only dying because they were unable to hear the Night Mother without a Listener. She's the one who informed them of who performed the rituals so they could dispatch agents. Without her they had to rely on outright rumor, like that Windhelm kid chanting so loudly everyone in Skyrim heard him.

If the hero of Skyrim keeps up the tradition of vanishing without a trace then the DB is done for.

The last time the Dark Brotherhood did that, it was a scrawny little wood elf with a apple corer. When you do that to a behemoth decked in the dead body of a dragon swinging a thigh bone, you don't deserve mercy. I did the world a favor by caving his skull in. They're not tough, they're just ballsy. Too bad "ballsy" gets you about as far as the end of my murder stick.

Wouldn't the Night Mother then simply choose a new Listener? It was my understanding that she knew what was wrong with the Brotherhood and essentially chose the Dragonborn as her Listener because he/she could straighten shit out once and for all.

You have to be competent, sane, and I'd assume respectful of the Night Mother to have a chance at being chosen I'd think. Though considering she didn't choose one after the Hero of Kvatch vanished, which was more than a century ago, it may be it's less her choosing and more there's some specific requirement to be eligible.

Check out this survey filled out for Elder Scrolls VI. I don't know what the source is or who took the survey, but whatever. Just look at it.

I'm actually still looking at Elder Scrolls Online. Still a ways off but what there is looks good.

Didn't Daggerfall do that? Or one of them I think. I never played anything older than Morrowind.

Daggerfall accomplished that through randomly generated content.

So it wasn't an actual sprawling free-roam map of the entire continent, then? Because when I heard that it featured all of Tamriel I was incredibly skeptical.

It was, but it was largely randomly generated. Think Minecraft and biomes. I haven't played myself though;

I think given the technology of the modern era they could certainly pull it off, but I'm wondering if they SHOULD.

We still haven't gotten games that focus on Black Marsh or Elsewyr yet, among other territories.

If they tried to do all of Tamriel, they'd run the risk of spreading everything too thin. I'd strongly prefer if they put as much effort as possible into making the worlds as detailed as they can.
