I'm going to interject here with my very minor Minecraft knowledge, but I though the amount of darkness affected monster spawns? So a map that has large spots of darkness that can easily reach the players, like overhanging rocks or caves with surface entrances, will have more mobs that attack the player on the surface. This is why the Far Lands had so many mobs, because most of it is shrouded in darkness.
When a fresh world is created, everything is in darkness at night and aggressive mobs will spawn below a certain light threshold. The job of the player is to survive by building shelter and digging for coal to make enough torches to ward away the creeps. Zombies and skeletons burn up in the sun, leaving spiders and creepers to hang around after dawn (spiders become passive in daylight). The exact terrain is mostly irrelevant; only a small fraction is overhangs and should be treated the same as underground in any regard. But basically, there's no real difference between any two randomly generated maps.

Never said it should be, just that it is. I may not post in here often but I do keep an eye on it.

Creepers are the most memorable mobs because of their distinct way of damaging a player. Most mobs do so over time so they are really only dangerous when you are away from your home of if you are ambushed by several at a time. This gives the impression that creepers are more abundant than other mobs, but after counting today, they are closer to 1/5th of the hostile mobs.

One reason that they may be perceived as more abundant is that they don't despawn from sunlight. This means that you get a creeper buildup from previous nights until you kill them. The effect isn't as noticeable in single player because of the way you play the game there. You pause it frequently and also generally don't play for as long sessions as a multiplayer server is online (namely, 24/7).

On towny: I recently upped the amount of town blocks per member of the town to 20. This will give towns a much larger area to utilize and should make them more attractive.

Creepers around my house tend to herd into groups of usually 4-6, overall there is about one "herd" per night

Yeah, you really have no reason to complain about creepers or mobs in general because torches prevent them from spawning and charcoal is fucking easy to make

There is no conceivable forum situation in which being a dick is necessary.

Well now I kinda intend to keep a closer eye on this thread. This thread should be about having fun in a game with fellow AZ users, not a dick-waving contest. The same rules of the forum still apply to the forum minecraft server.

Well. Technically, they only apply to the thread we talk in. The server itself has its own rules which are posted on page 1 of this thread. This is just being pedantic, but there is a difference.

haha true enough

I guess I basically just mean don't be a huge asshole, and if you want to be a member of the AZ server, you also have to be an abiding member of the forum.

This. And people wonder why we have so few people on the server now. It wasn't the hard / normal mode thing, but rather the attitudes that encompassed it.
