In addition, make sure all of your save data is on the Wii, not on an SD card. The transfer takes care of your purchase history in the Wii Shop Channel and all save data in the system, but stuff on the SD card won't work. Also, if you want a faster transfer, delete any Virtual Console or WiiWare games off of the Wii system, though really, it'll take about as long later to redownload them, so it's your call.
You need both systems at once because you initiate the transfer with the Wii U, then do the actual transfer with the Wii, and finally plug all of the data back into the Wii U, so you can't just have everything sitting in the SD card ready for putting into your new system.
Also, keep in mind, the transfer will send EVERYTHING over, there's no picking and choosing, so if you enjoy playing Brawl with your Gamecube controllers, might want to hold off, or else you'll need to get used to the other methods of playing.

Ubi Soft why
Cockfighting Society X & Y and GTA V come out at like the same time
Frankly, after Ubi's plans for the 3DS dried up a few months after it launched, I really didn't believe they would keep their word or their support with Wii U, and unsurprisingly, that's exactly what happened.
I'm not sure they realize that consoles need good games to make sales, and that maybe providing good games for the console will help achieve both.
Then again, I'm also a bit miffed that Nintendo has delayed Pikmin 3 repeatedly, and we still don't have a solid release date. Considering it was supposed to be a launch window date and now it's looking to drop at least after E3 is a bit worrying. Nintendo's got to push consoles this fall, and if they can't even get a launch game out without a 6 month delay, what's the hope of getting a Mario Kart or 3D Mario by Christmas?
Granted, I know the delays are because Miyamoto's picky as hell and wants the game to be polished like a dime, but him and Sakurai need to loosen up a bit, or be a little more serious about deadline and release announcements.
The other thing that might help Nintendo this Gen is becoming a bigger force in publishing third party games, like they're doing with Bayonetta 2. This gives them the exclusives without exhausting their teams that are working on their other games, and would help bulk up the library and curb dry spells. Hell, they could even do what they did with Luigi's Mansion and Mario Kart and just hand some IPs over to third parties to help make games.
In any case, this is going to be an interesting next few years.
