Alright I finally kicked his booty, and then afterwards I found out I could stunlock Havel by repeatedly stabbing him in the back after he gets up, so I killed him and got his ring.

congrats, you have one of the two rings you will use 100% of the time

the other is a tossup between the ring of favor and protection, and the cloranthy ring

I thought I'd have Havel's ring through the whole game, but at some point it stopped being necessary to my build.
So I replaced it with a drop-boosting ring.

it does kind of depend on the armor you choose but for any even medium-build armor if you want to light or even midroll, especially early game, you gotta have it

also item-boosting rings are really only worthwhile when you're specifically looking to farm a certain item, otherwise most other rings are substantially better. cloranthy is just directly one of the best rings in the game unless you're comfortable with a non-100% block shield, depending on your weight total the wood grain ring is amazing, either tearstone ring, bellowing dragoncrest, or stoneplate rings are all way better choices. worst-case scenario if none of those work for you, the wolf ring just fuckin' adds 40 poise, which bodaciously is nothing but a bonus to any build.

I pretty much ran the game from start (read: the moment i was able to reach Dark Root Garden) to finish with a Claymore, Grass Crest Shield and Elite Knight set minus helmet (switched that with Mask of the Mother three to five hours later because I liked the look more). Medium rolls worked fine for me up to Seaping Discharge, where I had gained enough weight resistance on my character to fast roll.

I chose the droprate ring because I'm stupid and just wanted to collect all the armors and weapons and lock them away in my bottomless box.

Wow, I'm disappointed, Gaping Dragon was easy as balls, I mean, sure I died once but the trick is easy to figure out but it's also tedious as fuck because you have to wait for him to stop stomping around then wail on him. The only parts I had trouble with is the tail attack (which I eventually figured out) and that fucking Hollow Sorcerer can go eat a bag of dicks.

I like how everyone has trouble with different bosses in Dark Souls. My friend said it took him forever to beat the bell gargoyles and Sif, but he beat the capra demon on his first try, whereas it was the exact opposite for me.

Freakin' Seaping Discharge was the bane of my existence.

Then the Fume Knight in 2. I died to that jerk 87 times.
Was fun, though.

Do you mean Ceaseless discharge? Yea, he's a pain. I don't think I ever beat him legitimately to be honest. On my third attempt I accidentally triggered the glitch where he stops attacking and just went with it.

I still need to play Dark souls 2. And I've only played a little of Demon's souls and bloodbourne.

I knew that didn't look right.

I learned that I should two-hand for big bosses when doing that one. Found that luring it to the stairs was the best strategy.
Though, one time, I got stuck on top of his arm tentacle thing and got flung into the air and died via falling for too long.

Ceaseless Discharge was easy for me, didn't even know there was a way to cheese him.

Turns out his attacks just stop like they hit a ceiling in some spots if you influence the auto-tracking a bit. It was amusing when I noticed.

That boss messed me up since I usually keep distance from everything before attacking so I can come up with a plan to defeat it. He doesn't accommodate that strategy, so I was out of my comfort zone.

So I had to restart because my save got nuked when I upgraded to a new computer.

Thank god I did because I killed the first black knight and got the Black Knight Sword.
