Personally, I don't think it was all that bad for Steam to pull the game. I've long been an advocate for tighter quality control on Steam, and conceptually shitty games fall under that umbrella for me. I'm kind of disappointed to see it brought back. I'm not going to call my stance objectively right or the moral high ground or anything, but I think it's fair for Valve to refrain from selling something on their storefront if they want to. It's not like this is a censorship issue - there are plenty of digital stores for PC games, and worst case scenario the devs just sell downloads on their site.

Steam already sells games very similar in tone to Hatred. I doubt Hatred was going to sell very well before it became "controversy of the week". I still won't buy it, but I'd imagine that all the attention it's gathered recently means that quite a few people will now. Especially those that have budding Let's Play channels on youtube.

What engine do they run though? Without an easy to use editor like Bethesda games have, it's not that likely modding will become that popular for it.

Sony got sued because Killzone does not have native 1080p, their first motion for dismissal has already been denied.
I hope this sets a precedent for false advertising in the industry.

As if Sony doesn't have enough problems already

Good, Sony practices false advertising so blatantly that I hope this hits them hard.

It uses Unreal Engine 4. Given that the new Unreal Tournament is supposed to thrive off of user created content, I suspect that the engine is very open to modding.

P4R wrote an excellent article about the best bits of gaming journalism this year.

So.. this is like a "worst of" for gaming journalism? I can jive with that. Games media can often do gamers an immense injustice when they let ingregrity go in favor of sensationalism. I look mostly to gaming forums now for unbiased information, which is sad.

Yeah, P4R hits the nail on the head with a lot of their parodies.

Polygon, for some reason, reverses their stance on Nintendo on the last day of a year full of Polygon articles doing nothing but shitting on them.

TotalBiscuit retweets something to promote a person's charity stream, is met with harassment from said person and their supporters, and several told him to die of cancer. This is especially jarring since TB is an official partner of that exact same charity organization.

TotalBiscuit's Twitlonger post in response to the whole thing.

The end of the GamesNosh article sums up my opinion on this matter perfectly:
Stephen Welsh wrote:
I think it’s a shame that the gaming community has divisions so spiteful now that they will decry endorsement of charity fundraising as a form of harassment, and use it as an excuse to attack a well-intentioned internet personality and his fanbase. It just saddens me that there are people out there who are so antagonistic that they will aggressively reject an opportunity to unite for a good cause.

TotalBiscuit will be running a charity stream himself if he recovers from chemotherapy in the next few days.

Wow.

This is becoming completely insane. That read like an exaggerated parody.

It's extremely disappointing to see good intentions be met with death threats and harassment on even his medical condition(s). A new year and we've already seen something like this.

I don't know much about TB, but he did handle it surprisingly maturely even during the initial fire, while most would probably act much more hotly. Sure he did seem to simmer a bit from what I've seen, but it still could have been much much worse.
