You did remember to run it as an Administrator, right? It won't update otherwise.

Huh, my antivirus thought it was a virus, too, but I let it go through.

If this thing gives me a virus there is going to be some serious face stabbing going down.

Well, with my attempt on my Vista, I did run it as Administrator, but my anti-virus was all like "O NO YOU DON'T". I don't think it's even possible to run things as administrator on my other computer, the Windows 2000.

Uninstall Avast. Install AVG. Profit greatly!

I don't have avast, I have this piece of crap referred to as "Charter Security Suite" that my dad insists on using.

I suppose I should ask him if he knows how to get it to not freak out about Phatasy Star Online, but he probably won't believe me when I say that it is not actually a virus.

Speaking as a computer nerd, I've heard great success stories and had good luck with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Better than the shitty Symantec we provide at uni.

So it won't let me play the game. There's two icon/exes/whatevers, one called 'online' and the other 'Phantasy Star whatever whatever' but neither will let me play. They just keep patching the same things over and over again.

AVG has documented problems with causing instabilities in Source engine games. Steer clear of it.

You only need the online.exe.

I'll assume you're running as admin. You're using the 'Patch Download' button in the main screen, or are you stuck in the loader?

I'm on XP so yeah, admin.

I'm stuck on the loader. It goes 'getting patch updates' then to 'updating data\map_city_02_00_00_00o_s.dat' and it stays there for a while, then closes.

Somebody else was having this issue with XP. I think it was Dark. I think you have to rename the folder to something other than Phantasy Star Blue Burst. I'd try that.
