they fucking crucify people too. those guys at the town were assholes but they didn't deserve crucifixion

see i might step in now and say that most people do yeah

but then i remember that about 90% of people who take the evil routes in games never go all that far, and most of that end up disgusted with their actions and start turning around and end up doing more good than evil

But they don't knock it down enough.
Blaming your bad karma on the legion quests is lazy.
You just have to do more good quests.
In fact, being good and not joining the legion is lazy in itself because you have chosen to kill them rather than limit their evilness.

I still can't kill my sister in the first Fable, even when I swear to play as the most evil bastard there is. I'll punch everyone in the face, backstab questgivers, and trade a thief for a kid, but I can't stab one single NPC to unlock the "ultimate" weapon's power. Even when I know she's a bitch in the other games.

There's a difference between playing the bastards in a video game and actively telling people in real life that they were not so bad.

Crucifixion, rape, slavery, chemical warfare, using children in suicide attacks. The ONLY THING the Legion can be credited for is bringing order to the wasteland, which is only true if you happen to be a healthy, young, human male. Everyone else is either enslaved, raped, killed, or tortured to death, and in many cases those are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah, the Legion is reprehensible. Instead of being a foil to the NCR they're just pure villains.

I do think the Legion could have been better though, if they'd stuck a little closer to the Roman origins instead of corrupting them. Things like central government governed by the people, public utilities, the offer of joining the Empire to barbarian tribes (even after defeat), and even treating slaves halfway decently (not to mention women who did hold power).

It could have been the NCR on one side as the modern militant civilization, and the Legion on the other as the ancient militant civilization. They each hold their own goals, their own horrors, their own methods, and the choice who to side with should have been much harder.

They might even have those things if they take Hoover Dam and New Vegas.
It's their Rubicon, their moment of greatness, that they need in order to grow.

Er, no. Taking Hoover Dam wouldn't do anything except bring their tyranny to the entire Mojave. They should have had them before even reaching the dam, before wiping out every barbarian tribe in the East.

As things stand, I took great pleasure in spamming Red Glare on the Legion.
