There's also a heavy involvement in objectives, no TDM or CTF. Competitive faggots aren't interested in it because it requires an objective, not just epeen K/D ratio stroking.

This game was everything the Hardcore guy wanted, but they forgot to fucking code their shit.

This game was just flat out bad. The story was pure bot matches, the graphics were terrible, the controls were bad, and it needed some major work. We competitive gamers don't care that the game is pure objective, we care that the game is horrible.

Coming from someone who was interested in brink, but once it actually came out I lost all interest, me and a buddy picked it up a week or so ago when redbox started doing game rentals.
Full price, just to try it? no sir. 2 bucks? I don't see why not.

3 things that really stuck out to me were

1. The auto aiming.
Mind you I played it on xbox, because otherwise it's unrentable. But this game has the worst auto aiming I've ever seen by an incredible margin. I had the mindset that I actually had to aim at my target, consistently, to hit them. While looking in their direction and letting go of the stick and firing will bodaciously lock on to them till they are dead.

2 A focus on teamwork and objectives in a game where you are forced to work with bots that are not programmed to complete the objectives.
This was the biggest problem in escort missions. Where out of our team of 8 or so, I was the only one able to revive the escort, who immediately got gunned down by the entire team of bots, every time.

3 clarity.
Nothing
is fucking explained in this game. I had to figure the controls out for myself midgame because I expected doing the campaign would at the very least tell me the basic controls, let alone the features that are unique to this game.

and just a bonus gripe that isn't really that big a deal, but was still annoying. The lack of glass graphics.
Several times, I lobbed grenades or tried shooting through what I thought were open passage ways only to find out that it was glass

Maybe none of these are a problem in PC version, I've heard the auto aim isn't nearly as terrible and I'd imagine there'd be more of a community.

As neither a hardcore gamer, nor someone who excels at shooters, I really like Brink. It has infinitely more depth than almost any other shooter I've played.

Console shooters, as a rule, set you into a team and tell you to kill each other. And that's it. That just doesn't do it for me. The objectives in Brink make the gameplay interesting and different, and I love that.

I will be the first to admit that online lag is horrendous (I'm hoping they fix it with the DLC), and the bots are absolutely unbearable. Even despite that, I'd rather play Brink than something like Halo where your only objective is to kill each other. I don't see how that doesn't get old to people.

Brink has a lot of interesting ideas, but I don't see any that were well executed.
unless you're playing with an arranged match with friends or something, the likelihood of you getting team mates that will actually do the mission seem low, if other games are anything to go by.

Did you listen to the tutorial that gives you free 1000xp and tells you the controls? Or.............looked at the manual?

Also, did you expect the glass to be dusty as shit and uncleaned or have neat little designs all over them?

I still love the game too. Fucking awesome and lots of fun, didn't notice any kind of auto-aim when I played it after a month-2 month break.

I expected the glass to be visible.
To be able to differentiate the glass from where glass is not.
We didn't get a manual cause as I said we rented it. And we saw no tutorial, we started up the game and were immediately dumped into character creation.
And are you playing on xbox?

I've got a lot of problems with Brink, but the biggest one by far has to be how much it feels like a console game when I play it on the PC. Every time I successfully sneak up on someone, only to accidentally look at them too soon and have them snap around to turn me into Swiss cheese, I think "This mechanic where you're alerted to unseen people aiming at you would probably be a lot more fair with a fixed turn speed, like all joysticks have". Every time I slide to knock someone down, then get back on my feet only to immediately die from whatever weapon they happened to be carrying, I'm reminded that their ability to instantly re-target me even after being caught off guard doesn't exist on consoles and I'd probably be a lot more successful on one.

Every time I look at my motion tracker, I know that it was implemented because console players have dramatically less situational awareness and they need to know where nearby threats are without actually looking at them. Every time I pick up my headset to use VOIP-

Oh, wait. Both server-wide and team-only VOIP channels are disabled by default on all servers without custom settings, and the inbound and outbound levels are both locked at -6 dB with no option to change them in any in-game menu. I've never once found someone I could communicate with in this objective based game.

And that's not even getting into the gameplay itself. I absolutely love how quickly you die as a Heavy body type under any sort of fire. I think it's actually faster than a Light or Medium would, simply because you're such a big target for the hundreds of identical fully-automatic weapons which are sure to be pointed your way. Better hope you're carrying one yourself, because even the best shotgun in the game with a double weapon buff still can't compare to an SMG at even the closest range. And if you do go Light, but opt to take a pistol? Well, only two of the five options are remotely usable, and you'll still die even after getting the drop on your target, because simply drifting your crosshair over them will immediately let them know where you are, regardless of distance or circumstance.

Touche, Brink. Not only have you taken my cheddar, but you've also made me never want to play another cross-platform game for as long as I live.

There's a large helpful list of how to do things ingame, barring the tutorial video.

Auto Aim is a toggleable feature.

I'd write a long booty post again but I'm tired right now.

I'd wait for Brink's DLC to come out, see if they actually fix it up.

I have either to much lag to handle playing, it seemed like the game was going at .3 fps, or i have no lag and can actually play. I bought brink and I like it, it's not the best shooter out there, but I really like it. They do need to fix the bots a little, but I rarely have to much trouble with them, they revive me and sometimes go for objectives. I hope they fix some of the minor problems, but all-in-all I like it, I would never tell someone to go and buy it, but I like it.

I've never had a problem with lag or with finding people to play with. Most of the matches I've been in, people have been pretty good about completing objectives. The reason I'm not playing much anymore is that this is really just an underwhelming game. The character and weapon customization is awesome and I wish it was so extensive in other games. The damage and armor is a little too balanced, if that makes sense. It seems I die all the same whether I'm playing light or heavy, and I'm not killing any faster with a shotgun or machine gun or SMG. Overall, this was fun, but I really wish I had rented this game rather than bought it full-price.

Bumping this because of DLC.

It apparently got released but it is not possible to get it on steam. Anything that links to it takes you to main steam store page instead, pressing downloadable content in-game shows that there are no dlcs and of course we can't go to paste links into steam while not in-game, so pretty fun that they're saying it's for a limited time but then don't allow you to download it.

I'm pretty annoyed.

Edit: I THINK I'm downloading it. I went to firefox to download it from there through steam and after confirming I have steam installed several times, it started downloading something. I can't see details of what though, so I'll just have to check in a moment if I managed to download the DLC.
