I hate to be the negative voice, but I think the Wii U is on its way out.
I'm willing to bet they moved the production of the system-seller titles (like actual Metroid, actual Animal Crossing, maybe even the Zelda game (like Twilight Princess was multi-platform)) to the NX. They tried really hard with the Wii U, but I'm willing to bet they are currently investing a lot of time and cheddar into making sure the NX has a fantastic launch to make up for the Wii U's poor performance. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii U - but compared to Nintendo's previous systems (especially the Wii) it has not been a success. Even the Gamecube has outsold the Wii U.
I expect E3 2016 to be all about the NX, with a launch window of Holiday 2016. My prediction.
That... well... what about Xenoblade X? That's coming to USA in 2016, right? So if that were to happen we'd have very, very little time with such a HEEEEUUUUUUUUUUGE game.
Also have they announced the next 3DS? Or is that just ye olde New 3DS? Gah, now you've got me all worried.
December 4, 2015 is the NA release date, which gives an entire year before my theoretical NX release date. They haven't quit making Wii U games entirely, obviously! There is still an interest in keeping the system alive and the fans playing until they can get the NX finalized and in production, at
least.
I was under the impression the New Nintendo 3DS was like the Wii U was to the Wii - a really shitty name but the next step up for the system line. It came out in, what, February of this year? I don't think it has run its course yet.
Plus Nintendo is working on the mobile partnership
and the quality of life devices - I'm pretty eager to see what they produce, but I haven't got terribly high hopes for the next year and a half of Wii U titles.
