Okay, I'm hyped for it. Lemme explain. There's a ton of worldbuilding in the Metroid series but you very rarely see the grander universe b ecause you're too busy spelunking in some godforsaken pit to find Ridley and kick him in the nads for the 7th time. I'd much rather expand the universe and try something new than go back to fucking Brinstar again. Other M was so poorly received I assume Nintendo is going to be reluctant to go back to the traditional formula so early. Also, this isn't the first weird game, there such a thing as Metroid Prime Pinball, and it's actually pretty rad.

This isn't directed specifically to you Marcato, more the general attitude towards the game.

Yay optimism.
The problem I see with that though is the fact that these are sort of two different games, how will they make another baddie that spans both universes?
Unless they don't.
Dangit optimism you let me down. :shakefist:

I hate to be the negative voice, but I think the Wii U is on its way out.

I'm willing to bet they moved the production of the system-seller titles (like actual Metroid, actual Animal Crossing, maybe even the Zelda game (like Twilight Princess was multi-platform)) to the NX. They tried really hard with the Wii U, but I'm willing to bet they are currently investing a lot of time and cheddar into making sure the NX has a fantastic launch to make up for the Wii U's poor performance. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii U - but compared to Nintendo's previous systems (especially the Wii) it has not been a success. Even the Gamecube has outsold the Wii U.

I expect E3 2016 to be all about the NX, with a launch window of Holiday 2016. My prediction.

Here's hoping they can get a good name for it. If they call it the Wii U&Mii or something stupid I will fly to Kyoto and key Iwata's car. Or the train he rides to work. I don't know.

But I am really excited for the Paper Mario/M&L crossover game. I love the humor of those series!

No I am offended that your opinion even slightly deviates from mine

My grand plan for Earth won't be complete until every last person agrees with me on everything

Haha, but nah, you're good. I guess I'm just kind of peeved that this is what we're getting for a new Metroid game after years of hearing nothing.

That... well... what about Xenoblade X? That's coming to USA in 2016, right? So if that were to happen we'd have very, very little time with such a HEEEEUUUUUUUUUUGE game.
Also have they announced the next 3DS? Or is that just ye olde New 3DS? Gah, now you've got me all worried.

If they wanted to expand the universe and try something new, they could have done a lot better than this. For example: Metroid Prime: Hunters had a lot of different characters. Metroid Prime 3 had a ton of them too. They could have done something where you could play as one of them, maybe in a choose-your-character fashion.

Or, they could have taken the years since Other M to try and come up with something new. Mainly I'd like to see how they would retain exploration in an era defined by idiots who need to be told where to go constantly. For example, I'd love to see them include a "point of interest" option on your map so you could keep a list of points on the map where there's something you can't reach or a door you can't open. It rewards explorations while at the same time allowing players to keep their bearings. Or Nintendo will say "screw that" and implement some kind of waypoint system since their secret motto is "Treat the player like they're a child no matter what."

December 4, 2015 is the NA release date, which gives an entire year before my theoretical NX release date. They haven't quit making Wii U games entirely, obviously! There is still an interest in keeping the system alive and the fans playing until they can get the NX finalized and in production, at least.

I was under the impression the New Nintendo 3DS was like the Wii U was to the Wii - a really shitty name but the next step up for the system line. It came out in, what, February of this year? I don't think it has run its course yet.

Plus Nintendo is working on the mobile partnership and the quality of life devices - I'm pretty eager to see what they produce, but I haven't got terribly high hopes for the next year and a half of Wii U titles.

Obviously the best part of the Nintendo conference was Reggie briefly mentioning the universal studios partnership at the end of it

The Wii U was conceived sometime around 2010 and announced in 2011 to be released in 2012. Based on that, the NX isn't coming out until at least 2017.

I don't think the Wii U is "on its way out" at all. We still have Super Mario Maker, Wooly World, amiibo Festival, and Star Fox Zero this year, and Zelda U and SMT x FE next year, at the very least

Sorry, bad joke.

Just Cause 3 looks absolutely ridiculous and I love it. Very curious how far they're going to go with environment destruction.
