If, persay, this guy I know, let's call him Retaw.

Now, Retaw has never played a Fire Emblem game. They sound really good to him, but he never got around to buying them, and was always a little intimidated by the unforgiving sense of permanent death. He's heard people talking about the unsettling restarting methods needed to keep your characters but not have to restart the level.

So yeah. If Retaw wanted to start playing the games, because he cannot deny how awesome they must be, where would be a good place to start?

I usually suggest Blazing Sword for GBA (just known as "Fire Emblem" in America) for someone's first Fire Emblem foray, since it's pretty long and has good characters and plot.

Path of Radiance for GameCube was the first one I played and a bit easier than BS. The beginning is kindof slow, though, and about half the people I know who've played the game just completely give up on it between chapters five and eleven. It's a shame, because the game really picks up after that.
Also, the sequel, Radiant Dawn, comes out for the Wii in like two months, so that's something to think about.

Sacred Stones, also for GBA, is way more complicated since it experimented with some things (like traveling on a world map, class trees, et cetera), and tends to drag at some points, so save that one for when you already like the series.

Also, the permanent death thing is annoying but you get used to it. It's just a matter of patience with restarting levels, which is sometimes necessary with strategy games anyway.

^^ What Katie said. Although some would say that Sacred Stones would be good to start with since its regarded as the easiest among the three.

easy in what aspects? i keep getting my booty kicked by the ladou ruins

also, imo: path of radiance was the easiest if you can get past the first third of the game, followed by BS and then the loverly sacred stones.

o0

How does one do that? >.> Pretty much most of your units have h4x stats compared to the enemies, if you train them. Unless you mean the Dracozombies on the final floor of the ruins, but Bishops and Bow users can take care of them fine.

Also, Valni Tower's first floor can get your units ready to promote by chapter 10 because of the weak Entombed boss. >.>
