I might pick up Mirror's Edge, but I'm not interested in much else. Does Spore have Securom on there?

EDIT: Oh, Mirrori's Edge does so I assume Spore does too.

lolololol nope, nice try EA.

steam is the only place that did digital distribution right. No DRM, everywhere in one convenient place etc.

Not exactly no DRM.
Games like GTA IV and Crysis still have GFWL/SecuROM

But yeah for the most part Steam is perfect.

You still have to log in to your Steam account to play the games. You can't play the games you have without starting Steam up and logging in. While its not DRM like Secrurom or install limits, but its still DRM.

EA seems pretty determined to prove that wrong, though.

This is exactly how I see it.

Competition is rarely a bad thing. Usually everything just ends up better for the customer as companies scramble to out-do each other.

They don't necessarily want to do anything bad with it, but it's a very bad trend in companies that they want to collect as much data as possible about their consumers, just look at facebook and it's apps. On one hand, it's understandable from an economic viewpoint, but the security problems worry me. Also, it should always be optional.

People keep saying that they're pop flyin' that Origin is giving Steam competition. However, Origin isn't competition. It's a monopoly. EA is only allowing its own titles and expansions on Origin, and taking them down everywhere else. This means that they can charge you whatever the hell they want for whatever the hell they want and get away with it because you don't have a choice.

The price of products on Steam is up to the producers of the games anyway, not Valve, right? So if EA has games on Steam and on Origin... Why would they be trying to outprice themselves?

I may be wrong, but isn't it also the case that it's up to games developers to price game depending on the currency? So it's not strictly steam's fault for overpricing for the Europeans.
