I really want to give this a try, but with Dragon Age 2 coming out right away, it'll have to wait till I wrap that up.

I always prefer warrior/rogue classes to be my first when possible, so are they fun in Rift?

To actually answer your question? Yes. Rogues are consistently better at dealing damage than even the offensive Mage variants, and there's enough ways to close distance that you probably won't have many problems with dying before you accomplish something.

However, I have a friend who takes PvP very seriously, and he predicts that in the long run, Warriors will be better than Rogues with the game in its current state, because they can do everything (survive, apply crowd control, deal burst and/or AoE damage), whereas Rogues can only deal burst damage, and have less potential in the other important areas.

It shouldn't get in the way of having fun, though.

Clerics are the best. Tank-heal tank-heal tank-heal all yo' damage (disclaimer: not always successful, if you have an actual tank ready and available please divert all aggro to the appropriate party member, thank you and good day).

I'm on the Deepstrike PvP server with Savagery and another friend of ours. Tried out some Warfront today - was fun and incredibly messy like all PvP is.

This was pretty lulzy, this was a complete roflstomp game I had in Warfronts today. My score's also pretty good considering I'm level 23 in a level 20-29 bracket so I was basically one of the lowest levels on my team as well, I do also get these scores consistently even when I was level 20 and even in losing games, though.

I would agree with you if Saboteurs and to a lesser extent, Marksmen didn't exist. Ranged DPS with a lot of burst potential and a whole bunch of CCs/slows. And then not only that but there's also Marksmen who have amazing ranged DPS, have ways to kite people around(This becomes much more effective with 6 points in Ranger or 12-13 points in Nightblade tree for a ranged slow that's on a 10second CD), and so many escape mechanisms in case of any focus fire(This also becomes MUCH more effective by having Riftstalker for the blink they get, and you don't even need to invest any points into that tree for it)

This game is too much like World of Warcraft, the tutorial/intro was cool but then it just gets similarly tedious.
Souls are cool but it's the only thing it does that's noticeably original.

So, I just participated in a zone-wide Invasion today, and the zone in question happened to be shared between both factions. To make things better, the objectives weren't obviously divided for the convenience of each side. This pretty much led to the mob I was floating around in running around solving everyone's problems while a select few people spied on the enemy's mob to see if there was anything we needed to worry about.

We got a huge head start on the final boss (Or in this case, bosses. There were three.) because the opposing faction took far too long to finish the second last objective and ended up pretty much doing our work for us. This didn't stop them from rushing in to try and steal all the glory, however, and the end result was basically two seas of green and red text fighting with a large walking tree in the middle. Needless to say, the tree didn't last very long.

With the boss dead and no mutual threat to keep us in line, the whole place turned into a bloody massacre. I could not have asked for a better interruption from my usual questing routine.

The only thing that seems freaking awesome about RIFT is the invasions. Really sounds as awesome as the Ahn'Qiraj Gate Event back in Vanilla days.

People need to stop trying to compare every new MMO to WoW and then use that as their reason to not play. It's not too bad of a game for now, at least. Does it need some more polishing? Yes, but it's still not a bad game to play. Besides, it's not really like WoW.

Invasions are pretty sweet, you can get some great gear for doing those although they nerfed the xp gains from them so hard. Makes me sad ):

I'm not going to refrain from comparing RIFT to World of Warcraft when it wants me to. And it definitely plays and feels like World of Warcraft. Same combat, same boring over-complicated story, same "Alliance vs. Horde" system (Guardians and Defiants), much better character customization though.

You can change the format of your UI.

Lul just because their commercial calls out WoW does not make it 100% similar to WoW. Will the games have similar things? Yes, of course. WoW is the first game of its kind and it is labeled as an MMO, every MMO after WoW has similarities to it no matter how you put it but by no means are they exact copies of the game.

Also, people care about story on an MMO? Almost every game I've played I never see people criticize the storyline/lore of the game and I've been playing MMOs for a very long time and spending at least some decent amount of time in each of those games I play to be able to form a decent opinion.

Your logic is terrible but I'm afraid I'd be a lot more rude if I were to try to answer seriously.

I'll only point out one thing. First you whine about people comparing World of Warcraft and a World of Warcraft clone. Then I provide evidence that the RIFT team does want their game to be compared to World of Warcraft, and then you just drop your argument completely and claim that somebody said that they're "100% similar"? That's ridiculous.

Yes. Yes they do. What do you think the people complaining about changes to the lore care about? And no, they are not few and far between.

Also I compare Rift to Warcraft because they're the same genre (RPG), same type MMO, and they have very similar concepts (two factions, similar UI, even the talent trees are shameless copies). They're not apples and oranges, they're two oranges and only one can be picked unless you want to eat just half of each and not get anywhere on either.

The opinions of this forum does not mean it is the majority.

In most cases, unless you're on an RP server(which keep in mind, are very few in comparison to non-RP servers) you will probably get trolled and/or not get many serious responses for complaining about lore because the storyline in most MMOs to be honest is terrible. If you're looking for story and lore just stick to single player games, they have much better storylines than any MMO will ever give. I've been playing MMOs for eight years and I almost never see people talk about the lore and use that as one of the reasons to not play a game and also, EVERY game I've played has a shitty/uninteresting lore.

Commercials for an MMO company calling Blizzard out does not mean they want to be a WoW clone, it is very poor evidence you gave. Besides, I'm not even whining but you're sure trying hard to insult me for petty reasons. I'm just pointing out that your reasons for not wanting to try a game are poor and that it's pretty dumb to compare every game that comes out to WoW and instantly assume it's a clone without even trying to play the game in-depth. If you posted your opinion on any populated gaming forum, you would probably get trolled and/or get mass disagreement. Don't believe me? Try it.

You are aware most people have no respect for most WoW players for things you're saying at the moment, right?

(Also, blegh at de-railing. Oops I guess? :U)

True, this forum is not a majority. Good thing I wasn't talking about this forum, but about the actual World of Warcraft forums. A tad more people than AZ and plenty of whining about changes to lore. Heck you know what people said when Blizz announced Tauren Paladins? "LORE!" Draenei Shaman? "LORE!" Females being druids? "LORE!"

They've been around since I started playing in 2004 and they haven't diminished in number.

Citing the WoW forums for any MMO argument is a very poor way to back up any argument. Try a forum that's not WoW related, there are a good amount of gamers that are not playing WoW as well. And WoW's lore is also pretty bad too.
