TIME TO BE A CAMWHORE AGAIN
Say Hello to my little friend!
That's the SEGA Mega Drive, alco called Sega Genesis by silly American people. It's awesome. This one still works, even though it's a bit dusty. I should take better care of it!
Well, let's get down to business...
To defeat Eggman!
Now, Sonic the Hedgehog is probably not the best game in the series, not even on the Genesis. However, it was the first game we got when our parents bought the Genesis for us! Hours of fun were had. It took us a long time before we were able to finish the game... And even more time before we were able to do so while snatching the Chaos Emeralds from Eggman's hands!
When my friend Adrien got the sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, I was so jealous :I Good thing we often paid each other a visit to play some video games! At the time, I also had a NES, so we played NES games at my place and Genesis games at Adrien's place.
Sonic is nice and all, but it is for leetle baby men.
However,
these three games are made for MANLY MEN.
The Revenge of Shinobi is probably the hardest of the bunch. It really takes skills and dedication to complete it... Skills we had to work hard to obtain. Mastering Joe Musashi's jump, weapons and Ninjutsus was really challenging. The game is awesome. The graphics are great, the Ninjutsus are astounding, the level design is really hard but fair, and the music is composed by YUZO (motherf*ckin') KOSHIRO.
However, The Revenge of Shinobi didn't get much play time... Because it was a single-player game! And when you've a good pal with you, you want to play two-players games...
Such as Streets of Rage. For a long time, this game was my favourite on the Genesis. It's your good ol' isometric 3D sidescrolling beat'em up, wit the token blonde karate guy, the token black boxer pal, and the token asian kung-fu chick fighting against bad dudes in the streets. The graphics were pretty good for the time, and the gameplay was a bit stiff, but it was hella fun and the boss fights were great and challenging. Oh, and the soundtrack was composed by YUZO (motherf*ckin') KOSHIRO. Later on, Adrien bought SoR2 and 3, but we still played the original from times to times.
Adam player 4 lyfe, yo. Can't wait for
Streets of Rage Remake v5.
And then there is Golden Axe. Oh My God. WE PLAYED IT HUNDREDTH OF TIMES. Gillius (me) and Tyris (Adrien) = Best Team.
Where do you start with such a game..? The graphics were really impressive. They may not be the greatest I've ever seen, but they really make the game look like a Fantasy world that's troubled by violence and amorality. The soundtrack (nope, it's not Koshiro's work) is printed in my brains. The magics were god-daisies excellent. Tyris' dragon left a strong impression on me the first time I saw it. AND THE BOSSES ARE GREAT. AND THE GAME IS FOOKING HARD AS HELL AND UNFORGIVING. Team work is a must if you want to make it through Golden Axe.
Later, Adrien (again!) bought Golden Axe II. IT WAS EVEN BETTER. The levels were gorgeous, the enemies even better and harder, the magic was even more impressive... I'll never forget all this time we spent whacking warriors, skeletons and lizards alike.
I wish we could have played the arcade versions..
CAPTNNNNNNNNNNNN AMERICAAAAAAAAH
And theee Aveeeeengeeeeeers!
Another Iso3D sidescrollan' beat'em up, this one with Captain America, Iron Man, Vision and Hawkeye trying to stop Red Skull and a bunch of other super villains. It was... Pretty bad, actually. I heard that the SNES version is better and the Arcade version is pretty decent. The gameplay is stiff, it's hard to be precise, there's a lot of blinking sprites and slow-downs... We still played it because we were kids, but it's meh. It's such an unnoticeable game that the cartridge still read "SEGA Genesis" even though it's the PAL version of the game.
Woah! A game based on an anime all the kids watched!
So, yeah, it's a 2D fighting game with Kamehamehas and Makanko Sappos. It's not very good either! But it was pretty fun, so we still played it some times. We even found all the secret attacks and how to deflect, reflect or dodge big attacks on our own, since it wasn't written in the instruction booklet

Piccolo player 4 lyfe, yo.
Oh God... Kenshiro, why do you look like Ben Stiller?
This game... This version of the game is
terrible. The graphics are uninteresting, the music is banal (even though some themes are pretty good), the gameplay is stiff and repetitive... The only interest this game had, namely being a Hokuto no Ken game and having Kenshiro fighting the villains from the second arc, was dummied out of the US and European versions. Instead of Kenshiro fighting against the Army of the Celestial Emperor with Bat and Lin, we have Aarzak (???) fighting against some bade dudes with Max (...) and Alyssa (!!!).
The original version of the game is a bit better, since you're able to recognize who you're fighting against. The boss fights, while being hard as hell and totally unfair, have some interest for a fan of the franchise.
Definitely not a game I'd recommend.
Landstalker! One of the greatest adventuring games of the Genesis! Although it takes a while to get used to the gameplay, once you're able to control Nigel effectively, it's an extremely fun and challenging game. It's not a game I played much, though, because, well, it was too hard for me! Heh... I watched Adrien play it a lot, much like I watched my brother play the old Resident Evil: the gameplay was a big turn-off for me.
I also found a bunch of cheat codes in the game box... I wonder what it's all about?
Now THAT'S an adventuring game I played for hours! Silly American people may know it better as Beyond Oasis.
You play as Prince Ali (fabulous he!), a young man who loves looking for treasures, and stumbled upon the Gold Armlet of the great wizard Reharl. Soon, you learn that the Siler Armlet, that belonged to the evil sorcerer Agito, has been found by a man who wants to destroy Oasis. As a Prince, it's your duty to find the four spirits of the Gold Armlet (Dytto of water, Efreet of fire, Shade of shadow and Bow of plant) to, once again, stop the evil influence of the Silver Armlet.
The gameplay is similar to classic Zelda games, except more dynamic. You can run around, jump, and realise combos with your weapons. You can also, of course, summon the four spirits to help you against your enemies or heal you.
The dungeons are a pain in the booty some times! But because the bosses are so awesome, nobody really cares. The graphics are also really good and coloured. And the music was composed by, wait for it, YUZO (motherf*cking) KOSHIRO

.
Definitely a great game. You should play it!
Eeeeeeeeeeee it's Sparkster!
That's Konami for ya! Two great action/platforming games, with challenging level designs, funny yet interesting bosses, and some of the best music ever composed for the Genesis. I won't lie: RKA is my favourite out of the two, but Sparkster is still a very solid game. Both games have a cute universe full of funny stuff, with coloured graphics. The last bosses are sooooo great, especially on hard difficulties. You should totally play these games, too!
I wish I could play Rocket Knight on XBLA...
Now, for the last game...
Ah, wait.
To talk about such a game...
I have to be at least a third as classy as Spoony.
Lemme get some stuff...
...
...
...Okay.
Here we go.
Ladies and Gentlemen. Eric Chahi's Another World.
I know it's not the best version of the game. To be honest, the best version of the game is the PC one, that was released some time ago.
Another World blew my mind. It has an unique atmosphere, it's challenging to your reflexes and to your brain, and it has some of the greatest animation I've ever seen on the Genesis. In fact, I can only think of a handful of game that were better animated, but these games have a development team behind them. Eric Chahi programmed almost the entire game all by himself.
It's so good. If you don't know about this game, you're really missing something. Please play it.
Well, that's it! I wish my bro didn't sell the NES so many years ago, 'cause then I could have shown off all the awesome stuff we played, but it can't be helped!
