Hehehe
Someone should use that as their avatar.
...I'm gonna shut up now. Also, I only ever play GTA when I wanna partake in a bit of the old Ultra Violence. I wouldn't really consider them great games, but they're fun so that's good I guess. I wouldn't consider them as "influential' as they are "controversial".

Killing things is boring after every quest is just that.

Oy, guys, come on. Let's get on topic here.

I don't want to have to lock two threads in one day.

I was praying someone would catch that. One of my favorite fucking movies.
Also, to Biscutdude, I understand that the games were indeed influential (obvious considering the use of the word "as") I will, however, argue that the games were only influential to other games. The only influence the games have had on society is on the generaly vapid individuals who claim that videogames create rabid, freakshow children that gun down people on the streets for points.

I don't think I've ever done more than maybe two missions in any grand theft auto game. I usually get distracted by the shooting the hell out of everything when I actually play (which is rarely anymore but still.) eh at least my brother does the missions so I can just copy his savefile and screw around in that instead.

I played Grand Theft Auto once in my entire life.

All my repressed homicidal tendencies came out in one automotive rampage of destruction.

I wasn't aware we were supposed to "catch" it. I s\aw it immediately, but thoughtit so obvious, its like referencing The Cake Is A Lie.

Also, I think we judge somethings influence by, you know, how it influences opther peoples work. If its by its legacy outside gaming, then things like Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus would be deemed not influential in the slightest.

Look Biscutfiend, you can't get a reference to something you haven't seen. That's why I was so pleased she got it. Some find comfort in comradery. No need to get uptight.
Also, your argument hinges on the fact that I find videogames very influential to begin with. The only relevent influence that videogames have on society comes in the form of popular culture. I'm speaking from the American perspective so don't go the way of "Well in MY country we worship games as if they were gods!" I really don't care enough to argue this anyway. I like GTA in small doses, but I've never actualy owned one of the games or completed one. Just play it with friends.

GTA's always been very meh to me, until the fourth. The fourth had such a deep story that I was intrigued. I grew attached to certain characters, and their actions affected my emotions. I dunno, it just seemed deeper to me.

The fourth's first expansion, the Lost and Dammned also affected me. Johnny dealing with a bunch of depressing shit, with a leader that's slowly making everything worse is both fun to play and watch.

Haven't played the other one, so no opinion on it yet.

I've only played GTA once or twice, messing around in a friends copy at his house. (Mostly consisting of pressing the "Jump out of helicopter" mid air) And my favorite character of the series is What-his-face-let's-go-bowling-cousin. The ill-timed calls amuse me very much.

Of the ones I've played, GTA 2 was the only one I liked.
I dunno why, since I enjoyed Bully, Saints Row 2 and Mafia: City of Lost Heaven, which are all at least inspired by Grand Theft Auto (I guess).

I was actually dissapointed with GTA IV. I liked San Andreas because it had that 'fun' element to it. A huge area to explore and crazy cheats. Thats all I need to have fun. IV didnt have that. It went for the serious route. I know some people like that but I personally didnt.
