What makes RNFB's game idea interesting is the implication of RPG elements into a survival horror game. The upgradeable armor is usually only seen in RPGs (in fact, only mentioning TWEWY is kind of an insult to every other RPG ever made, because it's EVERYWHERE). The most interesting part of this idea is the large campaign size, which is really only seen in MMORPGs.

At least, that's what I got from it. Maybe I'm misunderstanding RNFB's idea.

i pictured that in like the fallout universe, that wide open area with rubble and you have to scavenge in order to survive kinda deal

The upgradable armor is really only for the skills that armor can have. I'd say it's more like Mega Man, especially the PS1 MMX games where you could insert abilities into your armor. There won't be random drops with +5 stam +2 int +5% crit, for example, that would just be silly(coughcoughTF2coughcough). You could upgrade certain abilities that are unique to the armor, such as better stealth on the light armor or more energy capacity on heavy armor.

The maps are large, but not connected like they are in MMORPGS. They are standard multiplayer FPS maps, but they are just huge because a small area would get stale and wouldn't be very fun or be able to fit thousands of zombies.

First link doesn't work, took that file down, second link is the more recent version

And if you don't believe that I am Marth_Koopa (now Sigurd_Koopa) on GameFAQs, I can EASILY prove that, too.

Congrats, you have the level of programming skill and knowledge of a seven year old playing with their TI-89 Graphing Calculator in BASIC.

I am so utterly impressed... After all, you have managed to produce something which could be created with less than an hour of studying code in an "Idiots Guide To" book.

Also you don't need to prove you are Marth_Koopa, as we can easily tell he's a similar douchebag to you.

EDIT: Knowing you, you would be incapable of detecting the sarcasm in this post. I am a Network Engineer, not a programmer. But if you think that is an impressive display of your programming prowess, then even I know more about programming than you do.

I am fully capable of detecting internet sarcasm

The links I gave weren't to show my skill at programming, they were only to prove that I am a programmer. The guy doubted I was a programmer, I showed him some of my work, there was nothing about skill in the deal. If I gave you any of my other, better and not crappy work, it would reveal my real life identity.

Go fuck a Rhino

Everyone knows how to do an If-Than(-Else) statement.

Only some people about a While loop.

But what about a For-Do-Done statement? Or a Case statement?

That's about the limit of what I can do with programming logic (other than the assorted other small things I need to do in order to create a working application for personal use), but it's enough for me to tell you are made of bullshit.

Just because you can play with legos doesn't make you an architect :colbert:

Y'know, when I said "I'm a computer programmer", I meant in the sense that I am in the middle of a university degree in computer programming to follow a career of a videogame developer. And not that "I know how to use a computer".

Karilyn wrote:

I could be mistaken, but For/Do/Done is a function exclusive to Linux programming structures. And I do believe For and Do/Done are separate statements.

If it's exclusive to Linux, my apologize. I've never coded outside of Linux based stuff, and a few WoW addons I coded for myself (I wonder what Blizzard API is based on?), and BASIC on my TI-89 when I was in high school <.<;

I thought it was a part of C+ though meh. But naw, all thee parts belong to the same statement, and it requires all three parts to work as far as I know and have ever used it <.<;

"Goddamn it Jim, I'm an Engineer, not a Programmer."

Seems like just a more complicated Left 4 Dead. If you do eventually make this game by yourself, you'll get a small hardcore userbase, and that's about it.

As people have said in the Cataclysm thread: 'Needless complication does not equal deep and epic' or something to that effect.

Am I the only one who actually believed RNFB when he said he was a computer programmer, and didn't need proof? I mean, it's not that unreasonable.

So ya. CTFD and talk about video games.

I know how to program in C++ with DirectX and OpenGL to program my own graphics rendering engines. Do you even know how to program with OOP? I bet you don't. I even know a bit of 6502 Assembly(NES) from the days I tried to ROMhack NES games.

YOU are the one playing with Legos while I'm using raw materials to construct my own toys.

I'm going to be getting a degree in computer sciences/programming, I'm not ready for uni yet though.
