It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that the Japanese voice actors are actually high skilled and highly paid actors, while the American voice actors are usually bought budget wholesale for near minimum wage and have very little, if any, acting experience. (Tales of the Abyss being an already mentioned noteworthy exception)

Nope, couldn't possibly have anything to do with that.

It's nearly impossible to find a good voice actor with acting experience in America outside of big budget movies like Shriek or whatever. :(

That's fine, but when you start telling me every god-danmed day. It gets annoying, as you can surely imagine.

The problem is that, with a lot of games, the Japenese voices aren't really that much better. They just sound better because you can't understand what they are saying.

Although there are quite a few games where the Japanese actors are much better than the English ones.

If not understanding what the person is saying is enough to make it so every character doesn't sound heavily brain damaged, that's good enough for me as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, I kind of take back what I said. I realized you were primarily talking about RPGs, and RPGs generally have a really bad localization, for some reason, barring the big budget ones like FF and things like that. Not to mention a lot of older, PS1 era games had voice acting that was hilariously bad. I just hate it when people say that Japenese voices are always better, no matter how good the English voices are.

On-topic:

The perfect game for me would have no cutscenes. There would be a story, but it would be told without cutscenes, sort of like Portal and (to a lesser extent) Half-Life. I really have no idea what the rest of it would be like. I'm not even sure about the "no cutscene" thing. The thing is I'm really open to what a game can be like, and as long as it does it well I usually like it.

So, yeah, I have no idea what the perfect game for me would be like, but I can tell you that it would be really good.

The reality is, a perfect game is a very rare occurance due to two problems.

A. Time
B. cheddar

Thus, I propose, that almost any game could theoretically be a perfect game, if the developers had infinite time, cheddar, and a bottomless cup of caring.

Even if developers deeply want to make a game good... for example, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess... the time and cheddar limitation leads them to have to cut corners... Light Temple in Ocarina of Time, and all the dungeons after the master sword in Twilight Princess.

And no game can be perfect when it is obligated to cut corners.

Oh, I definitely picked an adventure game. I just love those Zelda-esque games where they throw you into a huge world with a few weapons, and it's your job to just do everything by yourself. I mean, generally you always do everything in a game, but I think the whole "save the world, attack these large things" makes me the most pop flyin'.

I do like a good RPG though. However, it can't just be a boring standard turn-based affair. They have to do something different--action commands (Mario RPGs), real-time fights (Tales), or just something unique.

Rpgs.

=D

But, like, something so that I don't have to do a lot of grinding all the time and a lot of running around for mini quests. Hmm.
Also something to keep battle interesting.

The perfect game will create its own genre.

Sometimes I think, maybe I wanna join the army. I mean, it's basically like FPS, except better graphics!

Yeah, but in the army, you can only take one or two bullets before dying, or at least having to be carted off to a hospital.

Is it just me, or is every FPS ever made, ever, unrealistic?
