According to Famitsu, Apollo won't just be passing through. He'll be featured alongside Phoenix as dual protagonists.

Not only that, but the game will take place in both the Kingdom of Kurain and Japan. Apparently Apollo will be handling cases in Phoenix's absence. The trailer with Apollo in the Kurain court was apparently misleading.

Finally, other than the great Rookie Killer Gaspen Payne, it's mentioned that Kurain will have its own undefeated prosecutor. It's interesting to see how that will play out, as from what we've seen, Phoenix will mostly be clashing with Leifa. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't have a rival prosecutor standing in his way as well.

Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice will come to the west on September...

...only on eShop, though.

So today at Anime Expo 2016, I went to the Ace Attorney panel. When they showed the trailer, at the part where the text reads "Apollo holds down the fort in the US", I muttered under my breath "Eat your burgers Apollo".

Case 1: I figured out that the song lyrics told us how to open the box long before the game wanted to have its big reveal, so I kept trying to use them as proof and I completely missed that Death Metal Jesus called the key by the wrong name.

Case 2: Am......am I crazy? We clearly were told multiple times that the stage lifts can't be operated by one person and yet the Wonder Twins brought them in court, but nope, that's not a contradiction because Betty needs a therapy session.

Also we absolutely did not prove that Roger Retinz did it, we proved he COULD have done it and then he just kinda gave up.

I just finished Spirit of Justice and I have some more complete thoughts now.

Case 1: Pretty good opening case, perhaps a little bit more difficult than a typical first case, in a good way. And I am 100% down with Death Metal Jesus.

Case 2: Sucks. It just sucks. I could dedicate an entire new post just to go over the plot holes and inconsistencies in this case. The problem is they tried to make it way too complicated because magic is complicated but it just made things not add up. Plus we didn't really prove Retinz did it. We proved he COULD have done it and apparently that's good enough.

Case 3: Mayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~ Aww man it's good to see her again in glorious 3D. And of course she's the defendant. I don't think we've ever had a suicide case before(if you don't count Magnifi Gramareye), so that was cool. Don't really have any complaints about this one.

Case 4: Huh. An allergy as an alibi. An "aller-bi", if you will. Also tiddies jokes galore. Uhh.....cool? Also I am pretty sure that's not how dissociative identity disorder works, but I'll let it slide since it's kind of cool how they work that into making Uendo a skilled rakugo performer. Also they totally missed the opportunity to put the gash under Geiru's clown nose, and then her breakdown could've revealed that we were correct that way, instead of Simon Blackquill-ex machina. But I like this case! It threw me through some loops I wasn't expecting, like having the real killer testify first to make you not suspect her.

By the way Uendo and I should be drinking buddies since we both can't hold our liquor for shit.

Case 5: Fucking epic. And fucking sad. The civil suit part was whatever and I fucking hate Paul Atishon with a passion that burns in my soul, but the second half is so good that I pretty much forgive the slow and boring first half. Apollo Justice: Ace Queen Dethroner. God daisies I was NOT expecting Ga'ran to transform into final boss mode like that. I'm really wondering what they do with the series now that Apollo is lawyering it up in Kuhra'in. I'm excited for the next game!

Overall I think this game is MUCH better than Dual Destinies in terms of story and SLIGHTLY better than DD in terms of gameplay, but that's just because they didn't change all that much. The Divination Seances are fun at least. You really have to think outside the box for some of those Insights.

Is it me, or did the localization team double down on the whole taking place in America thing? I don't recall the other games referring themselves to the US this much. It's especially jarring in Case 4.

Traditional American Rakugo Storytelling

Yeah I really noticed it as well.

Apollo reads manga and everyone takes him seriously.

Case 5: And then the Queen of Khura'in was a Final Fantasy Boss, seriously, what a finish.

A new DLC case, Turnabout Time Traveler, is available today, featuring everybody's favorite Butz.
