So actual game devs started the tag "#GameEthics" to, you know, ACTUALLY talk about ethical issues in the games and game journalism industries, and now instead of celebrating this thing that they supposedly wanted, the gamergate people are mostly complaining about this actual, real discussion of ethics in game development, distribution, and journalism as being "a diversionary tactic" and are telling people not to participate in this discussion.


I mean you guys can keep pretending like #gamergate wasn't about harassing women and the socially progressive but just know that you're wrong.

How the hell do you even reach a conclusion like this? Through what kind of twisted mental gymnastics?

Why bother changing the hashtag when GamerGate is already familiar to people? Why would you need a different tag to talk about the same issues? Why is refusing to change from the older tag proof that all gamers hate women? Why is your logic so awful? Why am I asking so many rhetorical questions?

There are definitely assholes who used gamergate as excuse to harass people and do "le epic raids". Discussing what "gamergate was about" is pointless because it's a concept and a concept can be used to suit any one's purpose.

If I had to wager a guess I'd say the reason this blew up so much is because a lot of people saw the opportunity to expose game journalism for the fetid, corrupted, self-serving bile it is. People have been fed up with that shit for some time now and the casket had to give at one point, the events that transpired were just a catalyst.

Everyone expected 4chan to harass all women in general because they believe that every single person who browses that site is a would-be rapist, and what does 4chan do? Donate cheddar to a cause promoting female game developers and create a character that they believe accurately represents a female gamer. Where is this conclusion of yours coming from? A minority of self-obsessed morons on social media?

Just a reminder to everyone here: don't be a condescending dick, even when you think someone is wrong.

I really like that tag, #notyourshield. It's allowing people of different races, and sexual orientation to let their voice be heard. We're not all "cis white misogynistic neck beards". Also, it's good to see stated a lot by most 'figures' of Gamer Gate always saying to not harass or be rude to Zoe Quinn or anyone else that is being criticized.

It has less to do with manners and more to do with the fact the people like them raise things out of context and use them as ammunition as yet another underhanded tactic. Brewing drama and getting a rise out of people is exactly what they want.
