I certainly haven't. I've played games with deeper stories, faster gameplay, better weapons, but Halo just has everything balanced just right. Good story, gameplay that works, and a very nice toybox of weapons. I'm definitely not saying it's the best game ever, but it's very high up there. Really, in order to formulate a decent opinion is to give it a try. Just don't go into it with impossibly high expectations. I hate when people do that. They always come out of a movie or game disappointed. It has to be either great or terrible. They can't just enjoy a game for what it is; entertainment. It's not supposed to make a huge impact on your life. It's an amusement. Problem is, people don't see that. They hate it because other people like it more than they do. I don't see the logic in those people at all. I guess what really angers me is that people say that Microsoft and Bungie are just in it for the cheddar. That they're milking the franchise. Granted, Microsoft is certainly guilty of that, there's no reason to get after Bungie Studios. This is their farewell to the series. After Recon they're done with Halo. Nobody really sees the hard work that went into making Halo. They don't see that this is a story they like. They've made this immense universe filled with characters, technology, and beautiful environments, and they put their effort into all of it. Just so that people can come in and bash it? I'm sorry, but that doesn't sit well with me.
EDIT: Sorry about the wall of text.
TL;DR: Play it first, then form an opinion. Also, Bungie worked hard on the game, and cares about it and its fans.
Yeah, and the ability to jump 10 ft
