If you mean Gold/Silver on the DS, then I think "Platinum" (Platinum being a more precious metal than Silver and Gold) is a hint at the imminent arrival of an "update".

Remember "Fire Red" and "Leaf Green" achieved "Player's Choice" status even upon their GBA re-release.

It's too easy for Nintendo to print cheddar like this - how can they not do it?

When I first saw Palkia, I wondered how the design team missed that. Then again, they also let Sudowoodo slide past, so I guess I should be surprised if the next generation doesn't include a Pokemon that just looks like a massive pair of tits.
