I've never played the mode but it's still as team-based as ever.

thats super noble and all

but its still a game

its not anybody elses business to dictate what you do and do not play

Solo player mentality has no place in a team-based multiplayer game. What's best for your team goes before what class you want to play, especially when that guy at the top of the scoreboard goes "dude, you're the third sniper, and we have no medics."

and trying to order people to do what they dont want to do has no place in a recreational activity where the goal is to enjoy yourself

if youre in a match that matters, like in UGC where theres an actual point? yeah go crazy

otherwise? its a game, and trying to force or guilt people into playing what you want them to play instead what they do is douchey and pointless

Let's take something else as example.
Imagine you're playing football.
And everyone wants to be the quarterback. So everyone is the quarterback.
Or imagine you're playing actual football and everyone wants to be an attacker and no one is in the defense at all.

Team games are just that way.
Play Single player if you don't like it but don't make others suffer because you think 5 snipers on a team is a good idea.

Who's forcing guilt on anyone? "It's a game" is the worst possible argument here because it's not just about you, it's also about the 11 other people in your team and if you or anyone else in that team doesn't do their job properly to the detriment of the entire team, leading to potential loss, that's not only douchey, but also self-centered. Do you also apply this same logic when raiding in WoW?

cripes

I've been conveying my point poorly, and for that, I apologise, let me put it another way

I'm a shit medic

I cant use the needle gun, I'm terrible when it comes to timing ubers to maximise them, and I hate being tunnelled by the other team; if my team needs a medic, me going medic might help, but I'd be hating every second of it because I hate playing medic

'Suck it up, your team needs it' is not a compelling reason for me to play a class that I hate, nor is it fair to say that someone if fucking over their team or whatever or for not doing so

Same thing in WoW; if my raid team needs a healer, I certainly could do it, but I would hate every second of it and I would rather quit than raid with them if thats the role I'm being forced into

You left out a pretty essential part of your argument in your previous posts then.

Then again, if you really are bad at those classes, then that's just one more reason to play them to get good at them.

Nah

As I said, I conveyed it poorly, but the point is still there

Playing a class you hate for the sake of your team is noble and all, but its still not fun

For me, anyways

I had a whole wall of text typed out, then realized that it could be summed up with "If you decide not to fill a void and your team suffers for it, that's your mistake." If they're all capable of going Medic and nobody does they all share the blame.

so then learn to play every class so you don't hate them

medic is actually, hilariously, one of the most fun classes in the game once you get it down. it's a lot of checking around, making sure every teammate has an overheal, making sure there's not a spy behind your current heal target, and then very suddenly having the ability to completely change how the match is going.

not to mention, it's not for nobility, or because you're just that nice. it's for your entire team having a good time.

if you're a class that's not needed, specifically you on the team, and you don't change when you need to change? you're bodaciously helping to ruin everything for everyone. saying "oh but i HATE that class we need" is a horrible excuse. ignoring the needs of the team is an inherently selfish act.

so

bodaciously every other class

but with the added bonus of having to cling to teammates and the joys of getting to bear the blame if things go wrong, as well as the wonderful life of being the most important target to everyone on the other team

:T

I play soldier, scout, demo and pyro the majority of the time, so I don't think I'd need to change often

plus the fact that everyone is capable of going medic when its needed, and its not a single persons responsibility to account for everyone on the team when everyone has the ability to be the class that's needed at that point in time

If someone that's also not being as helpful (I mean, you're not gonna ask the peeps who are doing wonders with a class to change) can change to medic (and that person's better than you) then I don't see how that can't be solved through the chat or something similar. If the person is being annoying and doesn't want to change, I, at least, change to Medic, even if I'm not that good at it.

(Though I don't hate the medic, so it may be just that)

Also, apparently bullets are not working in about half the servers I played today

Honestly, it isn't really worth it for me to play medic unless I have teammates which knows which end of the gun the bullets come out.

I have far too many incidents where I go medic and try to be useful only to have tons of horrible demoknights (or lousy grenadiers), lousy soldiers, scouts, heavies standing completely still holding down mouse button, w+m1 pyros and so on.

When you can't even rely on your team as a medic, it takes all the fun out of the class.

That's less useful than going your main and stomping the enemy team. We are talking about pubs here right?
