Not completely since the supply is only filled with people buying keys with real cheddar.

nope!

key prices in regular cheddar went down

so more people are buying and selling keys

so the asking price went up

which, yes, is against all forms of economical logic

Now watch as someday the price goes up so much that every key ends up costing 2.5 keys

Also I'm not really up to date on the TF2 economy but couldn't it also be that the value of keys didn't go up, the value of metal just decreased?

An economy like this shouldn't change like this because the supply and demand is ALWAYS CONSTANT.

The basic components (metal, keys, buds, bills) are either finite or infinite in number. Therefore the exchange should be the same, or in the case of keys, match the respective price.

technically, the supply and demand are both infinite, more realistically however, the supply is infinite while demand is not

so there should be no changes, and when there are, it should be prices going lower

this is not what happens

it's why they hired an economist, this kind of shit could never happen anywhere else ever

Apparently, unique Lo-Fi Longwaves are being handed out, received one as a random store promotion.

Of course I crafted it down until I eventually got the Soldier's Stogie.

Holy crap where to begin...

Supply and demand in any realistic economy are complex functions dependent on almost an infinite amount of variables. To start off while supply through time is basically infinite since virtual items are continually created, the readily available supply most certainly is not. Immediate supply is thus dictated by the amount of items handed out by the servers (which is function of the amount of active players) and the amount of items purchased from the store (which has it's own semi-seperate demand function). The effectively available supply is only a fraction of that however, as it's only composed of the items that the owners are willing to part from.

The demand of these items is incredibly hard to predict since they are virtual and thus have no inherit worth, only the emotional worth given by the consumer. To simplify, demand is a function of popularity. Popularity is a function of among countless other things: pop culture, market trends themselves (since the consumers are generally aware of the economy and will attempt to predict the worth an item will have for others), marketing, aesthetic appeal (which is of course individually dependent, but as anyone in design knows there are general trends and 'clichés' that have common appeal),... Another thing to remember is the luxe-product niche, which dictates that as an item raises in price it becomes more desirable since it will be a status-symbol.

Of course I've oversimplified things here, but this is just to give you an idea how economies work and how it attests to an incredibly poor insight in them to say that supply and demand are static when they are functions dependent on incredibly dynamic variables.

The last time someone crafted theirs, a bunch of other people got one for calling him an idiot.

It's been a while since I've posted one of these, but bouncing back and forth between classes doesn't make it easy.

Also, loving the new world model view. Just need to download a few weapon mod tweaks to make the world models look decent and I'll be pop flyin'.
