Got the game today as an early birthday present. Pretty fun.
I really really really really really really dislike the fact that Nintendo didn't just go with tried-and-true strafe/aim shooter controls, but aside from that it's very good and well-made. Seriously, who approved these controls. Everybody else has been getting 3D shooting games right for ages.
What's so bad about the controls? If you mean the Motion Controls, look at the gamepad next time you're in Inkopolis. There's an options tab. Turn off Motion Controls if you fully want to control camera with the right stick.
Nah, I've already disabled the motion controls. What I mean is that Nintendo made the controls such that pressing sideways on the left stick causes the camera to move sideways along with your character. Every other shooter in the market/made in the past ten years has it so that the left stick will never change the direction you're facing.
The problem with Splatoon's setup is that it doesn't allow for strafing (in any meaningful capacity) and therefore makes cornerplay in Splatoon much more awkward than it needs to be.
tl;dr there's a reason Halo doesn't have Zelda controls
Not that I don't love everything else about the game, Nintendo's odd control choice just grinds the hell out of my gears.
