A.K.A. Why Splatoon Does Not Need Voice Chat
Except maybe in friend matches. But then just use Skype or Mumble or something.

Okay, seriously, I can't find the next single player mission.

I keep looking for invisible paths since they recently revealed that mechanic, but I haven't found anything.

Seriously, where is mission 15?!

They have pretty even spacing if you look at the map on your gamepad. Usually in a vague circle shape around the center of each major area. Just kind of fire everywhere until you hear the sound of the kettle getting hit?

Just beat the single player.

Can we all agree that the king Octavio is seriously one of the best final bosses Nintendo has ever made? I know it uses the whole hand idea again, but it bodaciously makes you use everything you learned in your journey against him.

Yes! Very intense final battle. It gets even more impossible on the (Spoiler for amiibo challenges) Inkling Boy amiibo challenge. Splat roller vs Octavio is incredibly challenging, bordering on maddening.

Got the game today as an early birthday present. Pretty fun.

I really really really really really really dislike the fact that Nintendo didn't just go with tried-and-true strafe/aim shooter controls, but aside from that it's very good and well-made. Seriously, who approved these controls. Everybody else has been getting 3D shooting games right for ages.

What's so bad about the controls? If you mean the Motion Controls, look at the gamepad next time you're in Inkopolis. There's an options tab. Turn off Motion Controls if you fully want to control camera with the right stick.

I quite like the motion controls. They work well after a round or so of practice.

Also I was in the middle of a ranked match when I noticed the timer stopped counting down. And all my teammates vanished and so did three of the opponents. Oh, there was still ink spraying everywhere out of voids in space but I couldn't see or hit anyone, except for that one poor bastard. And nobody hit me either, so I assume I was invisible? But I killed that one guy like fifteen times and he got me once. But the match timer counted down to zero, presumably ending in a tie? Except the connection crashed out after sitting on the time up freeze frame thing for like a minute and a half.

Dropped me back in Inkopolis, so I rejoined and everything worked fine. No idea what happened, though.

Nah, I've already disabled the motion controls. What I mean is that Nintendo made the controls such that pressing sideways on the left stick causes the camera to move sideways along with your character. Every other shooter in the market/made in the past ten years has it so that the left stick will never change the direction you're facing.

The problem with Splatoon's setup is that it doesn't allow for strafing (in any meaningful capacity) and therefore makes cornerplay in Splatoon much more awkward than it needs to be.

tl;dr there's a reason Halo doesn't have Zelda controls

Not that I don't love everything else about the game, Nintendo's odd control choice just grinds the hell out of my gears.

You know there is something like a mute function right.

Oh, but I suppose strafing controls wouldn't work with weapons like the Splat Roller though. It's definitely not a strafing weapon.

Try holding down the Y button while walking

Having motion controls enabled makes work better though :-)

Yeah, I've seen the Y-button fix (even someone who taped it down) but since it prevents you from aiming up and down without motion controls it's a useless fix for me. I'm wary of motion controls in lieu of joysticks after Mario Kart Wii.

I'm really annoyed that the new map and the Zapper weapon didn't require any kind of update or anything, they were just unlocked when Nintendo felt like unlocking them. That makes me think that the other weapons and maps will be the same. Disk-locked content is just plain stupid. This just means that Nintendo can unlock all of it at any time but are choosing to unlock certain parts periodically to create the illusion of constant updates.
