The battery life is a bit disappointing. I know why the system puts such a strain on the battery but it still feels like they're taking a step backwards.

I wonder if turning the '3D effect' in 3DS games off would prolong the battery a bit?

Can't you turn the brightness down?

I do that and my DSi lasts for hours.

I don't know about you, but I prefer playing my DS Lite with the screen somewhat dim, instead of the blinding brightness. DS Lite easily lasts for around 20 hours of play.
I'm assuming that lowering the brightness (which IS possible on a 3DS, right?) will extend the time until it needs to be recharged.

I'll probably wait until there's something interesting on it for me, I see no point in purchasing otherwise. Except for the fact my DS Phat has been alive ever since launch

That's because if they wanna sell more 3DS to dumb people (the kind of people that buy iPads and iPhones despite there being better and cheaper alternatives), they need to put a fuckload of gimmicky things - Internet and shit like that - that will kill the battery life instead of just making a handheld game console that'd last longer.

Be careful about leaping for this on release guys. I've been hearing a lot of negative stuff 'bout this. My mum's been doing a lot of research, apparently 50% of people suffer from nausea from watching the 3D effects, the release list isn't that impressive, the battery life (as mentioned) is poor, and it's pretty daisies expensive. This was an on release buy for me; now I'm not so sure. Might decide to wait for 3DS Lite and let the other consoles tide me over. But I suppose there's a couple of months for them to try and sort some of the troubles...

How likely is that though.

My right eye is lazy so I might not be able to see it either. I think I'll wait till there's a demo unit at the store or something I can test it out.

I have a bit of a lazy eye too but I can see 3D but it gives me a headache pretty easily. I never really planed on using the 3D very much in the first place.

I think that's why the console lets you adjust the 3D effect. They have to be careful about making people sick, especially after that fiasco with people getting ill from watching Avatar in the theaters.
