Jesus I can not find a Metal Detector to save my life.

Why are nymphs so rare, man??

Also I think that the drop rate screws up in multiplayer, the wiki claims it drops from nymphs 50% of the time but that certainly hasn't been happening. I've started looking for one in single player but I've only managed to kill one nymph so far. I keep seeing them on my radar but I think I keep leaving their range and they despawn before I can find them.

I make a new world, find underground snow and hollow out a massive area.
I typically manage to get nymphs to spawn that way, I actually ended up getting one while hollowing out the place.

Also if you make the new world an expert world it's a 100% chance drop.

Spent forever grinding for a Crimson Key, only to discover that, for whatever reason, my Dungeon spawned without a Crimson Chest. Oh well.

I beat the Moon Lord, but I had to cheese the fight by rolling around in a Minecart. I am now unable to beat the Moon Lord, even with the cheesey Minecart, so I built a Moon Lord AFK Farm I found on the internet. Haven't tested it yet, though.

In other news, I made my first pixel art. Now King Knight's amazing swagger walk will be forever immortalized atop my base.

So, believe it or not, the other day, I was given early access to Terraria 3DS.
(Home screen proof, since there's no way to take screenshots, unless they put up a Miiverse community)

Plays real nice, I've encountered just a few very minor bugs, and it's for the most part a solid port. Will be $20, download only until early 2016, and devs have confirmed they have already started work on the next update for bugfixes and a little more content.

On a scale of one to ten compared to the PC, I rate it a 9. Not perfect, but it's certainly great, it serves its purpose, and it runs real nice.

I might buy the 3DS version if it has the Lunar Events.

...is what I would be saying if I had cheddar. And a 3DS.

I've had this game for months, but I haven't played it much at all because I'm on another Minecraft binge. Oddly enough, Minecraft is the reason I got Terraria.

So aside from "don't die," anyone got any advice for a noob?

Well one thing to keep in mind is that Terraria is much more combat focused compared to Minecraft.

First build a small house, preferably out of wood. Go around and look for wooden chests around the surface, take all the items, break the chest and bring it back to your house, keep your cheddar in there until you have a merchant and can buy a piggy bank, very rarely do you ever need to bring cheddar around outside your housing.

I also like to keep various chests for different things such as a chest for metals and ores, a chest for herbs & potions, a chest for building materials, etc. It's just much easier if you do this right from the start so you don't have a lot of checking in this chest, then that chest, then that chest for that one thing you stored.

Replant trees, wood is one of the most useful materials, and don't turn all your iron/lead ore into bars. If you combine them with Daybloom (Small yellow daisy-like flowers) you can make ironskin potions that boost your defence by 8, which is incredibly helpful when you don't have much strong armour in the early game.

To craft potions you need to place an empty bottle on a platform like Wood Platform or a Table. Filling Empty Bottles with water is simply stand in water and go into the crafting menu to 'craft' the water bottles. Water Bottles are also a fair way to restore HP early game.

You can build plant pots using Clay at a furnace, planting Daybloom seeds in this is safer as accidentally attacking them won't break them like planting them in the ground would do.

there's a lot more to learn but I'll let you wander it yourself, a nice start would be to look up crafting stations, my houses are usually massive rows of crafting stations, chests and other random stuff. :p
