Well, it would be pretty neat to have blocks & players/npcs appear in front of wall tiles, and those wall tiles appear to be in front of the distant background.
Give a bit of depth to the rooms and such.

There have been quite a few pixel games that have benefitted from 3D (Mutant Mudds comes to mind), so it'd be interesting to see how Terraria would do it

Decided to finally do an Expert mode run with a new character.
Based him off Golden Sun's Isaac. Remade the world 4 times before getting Corruption so I can get the Worm Scarf. (Mandatory for Isaac's look.)

Edit: Okay, I've hardly been on expert at all and it seems the game is really not going in my favour.
Just look at this corrupt.
Image
Bigger.

How am I supposed to get past this easily? It nearly stretches from my spawn to the dungeon!
Whenever I try to go past at night I get swarmed by Demon Eyes and those corrupt things. Then Zombies come up at front and I can't risk jumping or I'll be hit by the enemies flying over me, but I can't stop and fight them or I'll get surrounded.

Edit 2: I got a Musket. All is great now.

I use railways to get to the Jungle/Dungeon on both sides. You can make rails in pretty nice bulk and place them while riding.

I keep forgetting those are a thing.

Edit:
I accidentally found out my old house is a Lightning Bug spawner.

I ended the night with 103 Lightning Bugs.

Now you must train every one to fulfill your destiny.

Go forth young hero, and become THE GLOWFLY

I must embrace my destiny!

Edit:
I've beaten Eater of Worlds, Eye of Cthulhu, Queen Bee and Skeletron on Expert now.
Skeletron was the toughest so far, here's what I beat him with.
My buffs:

Equipment:

My weapon was a Mythical Demon Scythe.

Now to get my Hellstone Pickaxe and then build a Hellbridge for the Wall of Flesh.
King Slime is unimportant to me.

Edit 2:
I beat Wall of Flesh first try. Beenaded all The Hungry away, Demon Scythed it to the end.

Terraria on 3DS is gonna rule so much.

I wonder, has Katie ever played Terraria? It'd be interesting if she did a little comic based on it, that'd be cool.

Oh man, all that time trying to kill Hallowed Mimics on Expert was worth it.
I absolutely OBLITERATED the Destroyer.

Holy Arrows, Daedalus Stormbow. I killed one and still had 3 mins on my 4 min buffs.
I went back to my house, crafted 2 more Mechworms and then killed those 2 with 1 min left on my buffs.

PS. The only damage buff I used was Archer Potion.

I had to farm about 75 Souls of Light before I got the Daedalus Stormbow. But it was so very worth it.

Actually, now I think about it, you could say my character Isaac summoned Atalanta.

Beat Skeletron Prime with relative ease.
The Twins were much more difficult, had to search for Life Fruit, got a Frozen Turtle Shell and Heart Statue set up, was still a fairly close battle but I did it, Plantera's Bulb has now spawned in my Jungle.

Even More Later.
Killed Plantera, easier than The Twins.
Got 2 Solar Eclipses, got a Godly Death Sickle. Plantera was pretty easy with that and Turtle Armour.

Even MOAR later.
Golem. Even on expert mode. Y SO EZ? Death Sickle kept the fists off me, move left and right to dodge eye lasers, run under Golem when he jumps over you. Even easier than Plantera.

So far I rate the bosses in this order, from Hardest to Easiest, using only weapons available before fighting them.
The Twins, Skeletron, Plantera, Skeletron Prime, Golem, Queen Bee, Wall of Flesh, Eye of Cthulhu, Eater of Worlds, The Destroyer. ...Yes I find the Destroyer on Hardmode easier than fighting Eater of Worlds on Easymode.

Only got the tough guys left now. Pumpking, Ice Queen, Duke Fishron and the whole Celestial Event.
I could start the Celestial event now, get the powerful items from the Pillars and use them, or I could defeat the other bosses first, not sure what way I'll do it.

I've been taking a break for a while, but I'm getting back in through a game of elves vs dwarves. It should be fun. A whole bunch of people have signed up for this round.

I probably shoulda replied to this comment like a million years ago, but apparently they won't be using the 3D effect because it takes up some processing power, and they're trying to get the game to run as smoothly as possible.

I'm both down yet hesitant for 3DS Terraria, on one hand I feel as though 505 games is leeching onto the games success, but on the other hand, its a really good port attempt, its like they knew how to port it well to consoles but couldn't figure out how Redigits engine worked.

The exclusive final boss is seriously a rebranded Eye of Cthulu, I think the exclusive turkey boss is new coding though.

From the looks of things, 3DS is being handled by a much more competent team and it hopefully won't be buggy like Mobile. And one of the developers has hinted at there possiby being exclusive content for the Wii U and 3DS instead of the other consoles' exclusives.

Finally got back into Terraria. Beat The Twins, Skeletron Prime, Plantera, and the Golem. The twins gave me trouble (being the reason I stopped playing in the first place), but the others were a lot easier than I expected. I forgot my Chlorophyte Bullets for Plantera, but whooped him anyways. Got cocky and didn't prepare for the Golem. Just grabbed a couple buffs and took him on. I almost died, but still pretty easy.

Built a Hoverboard and grinded in my Corrupted Tundra for a Corrupt Key (why are my Tundras always 95% Corrupted?). I'm rockin' a The Eye of Cthulhu yoyo, Rainbow Gun, & Sniper Rifle.

Now I'm grinding for the Frozen Key and Jungle Key. The Piranha Gun will be mine.

Of course, the REAL victory will be getting Bone Lee's autograph.

Edit: While grinding for a Frozen Key, I got 3 Solar Eclipses in a row. I have come to the conclusion that this game is self-aware. I'm just not sure whether the game is evil, sadistic, or just that guy that tries to be helpful in ways that end up being very unhelpful.
