I got no idea why I hate it so much. I always heard something along the lines "greatest game evur!", Tuxedo Mask also telling me he loved that game to bits. But then I was disappointed, like, really. As I said I opened FFIV as my easter gift, which I didn't wanted, and then I got the right game, which I didn't like. Really, I can't say why. The battle system is very good, the music is very fitting and good to listen to, a nice and fun idea with many different endings... well sometimes you just can't explain tastes.


Well crystals were there since the first part (mind you, I think that, I don't know anything about part one and two), and always signifant. I mean, it's also like saying "They should change the Chocobos already to different mounts" or "They should change Moogles to different mascots for every game". It's just a big part of the whole universe.


Well I will play them all at some point, Dissidia made it interesting for me to try them out. And I will play IV on the DS, mainly because I have access to that game and I like playing DS : P

Bit generic though, isn't it? I mean, seems like every one of these universes uses Crystals for energy, which is kinda silly as we've never really found a crystal capacble of giving off energy.

But like I said, it just seems so cliche. I mean, if its fantasy, you're free to use anything. Life energy, beards, monkeys, awkwardness, all of tbhese could be made to power airships. Hell, you could even go for the really fantastical and ludicrous stuff and go with oil that doesn't contribute to global warming.

It's cliche only because Final Fantasy did it. Final Fantasy turned it into a cliche.

I can't think of any other game now, but name me some where crystals are used as main energy source apart from the Final Fantasy universe. I don't think it's so cliche actually, and using crystals is pretty fancy in my opinion. Most RPGs (atleast the ones I played) don't have an energy source at all, or the common coal/oil/electricity.

Well, top of my head, its used in KOTOR, Golden Sun, WOW, Sonic, Megaman, Zone of Enders, Metroid, and Legend of Mana. Hell, I even remember it in Lego.

And "all these universes" refers to vaguely fuuturistic univverses that aren't post apocalyptic.

Please for the love of all that is holy stop talking. I can tell you for a fact that Golden Sun does not use crystals. I have played that game 20 times. Furthermore WOW doesn't use crystals as a central power source or plot device. Do they appear? Yes, but they aren't the main energy source.

Crystals tend to absorb materials and energy from what's around them. Crystals are also more durable than many substances.

Any crystal that formed in an energy-saturated environment would store that energy.

Okay smartass, what the hell do you toss into the lighthouses to reactivate them, thus giving energy to the land?

No idea about KOTOR, Megaman, Zone of Enders and Metroid, but the other ones you mentioned don't have it. Well ok Sonic with the chaos emeralds, but those are only 7 (atleast to what I remember), Golden Sun (only played the first part, I admit) had the regular elements as a power source, WoW has the regular wood/coal stuff, and Legend of Mana didn't use crystals as power source, it's always mana there (well if people would use it actually). The crystals you see in there are just a simple graphic to depict exp points.
