You know, blight town is a lot easier when you use the master key to bypass the worst part of it...

Started a pyro today and made it all the way to the beginning of Sen's.

I feel accomplished

You shouldn't take other peoples advice on what weapon you should use, try out a couple weapons and find one with a move list you like.
I will however recommend you some dex weapons.
Badlur Side sword is a fantastic dex weapon, with good reach and a nice balanced move set.
Uchigatana or Iato are good too.
Also you know that Velkas Rapier scales with Intelligence more than Dex right?
If you really want a Rapier I'd say get Ricards Rapier, which can be upgraded to +15 or lightning or whatever while Velkas can only be upgraded to +5

+5 Enchanted coupled with a high INT and the good sorceries makes for a character that rips things apart.

Catacombs? Any time you feel up to rushing the necromancers. Not too bad really, just make sure to have a good light source.

Now, the Tomb of Giants? Never a good time to tackle that. Ever.

I unno.
I finally got Velka's rapier the normal way because fuck shortcuts.
I can definitely dig it, the moveset looks and feels great, but the damage is again a bit lackluster. I splurged my Twinkling Titanite to get it to +2 or +3 or something and now it definitely does more damage than my Divine Estoc. I'll probably continue using it.

In general, I just hate the Painted World of Ariamis. I always feel like it should be way easier than it is for me right now. At least I got some stuff like the Dark Ember and the Red Soapstone out of it.
