EA's digital distribution program Origin (i.e. their answer to Steam) was released back in early June. From today until July 31st, they're having a Summer Sale where a selection of popular titles are going for just $4.99.

Since EA has been slowly but steadily withdrawing titles from Steam, I'm probably going to end up installing Origins down the road simply for game accessibility. What about you dudes? What are your opinions on Origin? Do you think it's going to effect titles with large player bases on Steam, such as the Battlefield/Bad Company 2 series?

I see a ton of Sims, some Battlefields, C&C's, MoH's, and several Spores. Not a great selection for a "summer sale."

Pretty much the only thing I want out of that is Mirror's Edge and Spore. A Battlefield game or two wouldn't hurt though.

It makes me sad that BF3 is likely going to be on it, as that would be the only reason to install Origin for me and is thus a waste of updating disk space. I have ridiculous amounts but I'm very picky about it.

I'm already getting a disc version of Battlefield 3, I'm fine until they pick up some more games, that is if steam doesn't just kill them some time within a year to the point where it will only be pure EA games being sold there, as well as on steam.

The reason games are being withdrawn from Steam is because they offer DLC through the game and not through Steam. I don't believe that this is the actual reason for it though. EA was perfectly aware of that before they launched the DLC. They are most likely doing this to make Steam look bad so their service looks better.

Personally, I would like everything on Steam :P

This is good. The more competition steam has, the better. There's no downside in this equation.

Actually, there is one. The Origin store is only EA games. So Steam and Origin will not be competing as they share no common stock. And Steam does have a lot of competitors, but they really don't have the upper hand on price or content.

Excuse me while I continue to buy EA games, crack them to remove DRM (is it still piracy if I actually paid for it?) then put the shortcut on Steam.

Origin is just a download manager you don't even need it for games.

God forbid anyone buy a hard copy of anything anymore.

God forbid EA wish to avoid Steam's compensation.

God forbid EA actually do this right instead of shitting it up.

They've got reasonable reasons to do it, but god daisies it's EA so they're gonna fuck it up.

Origin required to play BF3 on PC. it's a login before you can launch the game, so you have to at least make an account. still getting it for PC, though. IMMA TANK ALL OVER YOU.

If they somehow make it so I can't play the EA games I bought with Steam any more, I'm gonna freak.

If they stop selling Sims 3 expansions on Steam, I'm gonna freak also.
