Okay so back at E3 Nintendo announced that Team Ninja and them would be working together on a new Metroid game, Other M.

Now that the obvious section of this thread is over...

I recently watched the trailer again and my initial excitement has worn off. I'm now capable of thinking rationally about what this game is going to entail.

First of all, the Hand to Hand combat system. My biggest gripe with Prime was that there was no melee attack, so this should be a blessing. However, I realized that the only way this is going to be implemented as shown in the video is either with Quicktime or press-button-and-watch systems, neither of which appeal to me.

Secondly, Graphics. The graphics aren't bad, but there's a distinct problem. It's all very colorful. Maybe I just got used to the grays and browns of the Prime series, but Other M seems like it was made with a box of crayons. It looks a little cartoony to me, especially that purple jelly-monster featured in the trailer.

Finally, the transition between 3rd and 1st person during gameplay. That's two completely different sets of controls to know, not to mention the possibility of having to switch at crucial times. Personally I would have preferred either one or the other, because both seems too confusing.

All in all, though, I am incredibly excited for this game. I really hope my complaints are completely invalid.

this isnt Metroid Prime though
this is a completely different game
people probably thought the same when they say Prime was moving to 1st person

Well the second point is a bit... off, there's nothing wrong with colour. Heck, I gladly welcome it being colourful considering the ridiculous trend of 'mature' games being ridiculously dark or monochromatic!
The third point... could be valid, depending on how they do it. Either I missed something in the trailer, or they didn't actually show it changing between 3rd and 1st perspective in a scene in terms of gameplay, just in terms of those action events, while the 3rd person gameplay is kept to separate stages. In other words, it doesn't actually switch between them except for between levels. ...or, at least, I hope that's what they're doing.

But the first point looks to be true! Which I really, really hate! It's the "it doesn't matter what the gameplay is like as long as it looks awesome" policy that Final Fantasy (any after 6) and God Of War are so very much in love with.

In the trailer during the fight with the Jelly Monster, you can see that Samus runs up and shoots it in the eye in third person, and then freezes it's arm in First Person.

I thought that was a non-action button event.

What.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game simply because it's Metroid. Except for Prime Hunters, I haven't played a Metroid game I didn't like.
I've only seen one teaser trailer that didn't really show too much.
I agree that the colors look a bit too bright at first and I don't really like the way Samus looks in the trailer, but that's not going to stop me from playing it.

I don't care what anyone says, I ducking want this game now. fffffff
Also, if you play any other Metroid game besides the Prime trilogy, its very colorful. Well, except Return of Samus, but that was on the no colour game boy.

I think in the trailer the project was still in its very early days - maybe they did a rush job on what was finished just so they could show a trailer at the event.

There's probably gonna be a few game design overhauls/revisions before the thing gets out there, so I wouldn't say you don't want the thing before you actually see some screens closer to the project's completion.

The only issue I have is that the series is slowly leading away from what originally made it so unique and enticing to play. I'm excited, yeah, but I miss the chilling feel of being absolutely alone in the early games. They kinda threw out that concept during Prime 2 and haven't brought it back. And now it seems like they're trying to take Samus and send her into the bimbo bin along with most other video game females. Please prove me wrong, Other M.

I'm very very picky about my Metroid. Where the hell is Dread?

I...never felt that way about Metroid. Why do you think she's being thrown in the "bimbo bin"? I don't understand that.

I liked it when Samus was part metroid (Metroid Fusion) - that concept had legs.

Shoulda gone with that theme for a few more games Nintendo.

I think MFusion was my favourite of them all, though I do like Meta Ridley a lot too.

Well, isn't Fusion the farthest in, timeline wise? I can't remember if Dread was supposed to continue that or not. I do agree though, I wanted to see what came of that.

Do you remember when they announced Zero Suit Samus in Brawl?

...Yeah. I don't even want to think about the "fan reaction".

That and Team Ninja's history with female characters worries me a bit.

She's not going to become a bimbo.
