The off topic conversation in the text screencap thread inspired me to make this.

List the consoles you've bought and played on in chronological order. I'll go first

Gameboy+PC->Playstation+PC->Gamecube+PC->Wii+PC+DS

Might as well do a similar thing for games themselves while we're at it. Start with the first game you've ever played and then list in chronological order games that were important to you or in other ways defined your "progression".

Some weird Smurfs game/Super Mario Bros 2/Pokemon Blue/Doom->Final Fantasy VIII/Age of Mythology->Super Smash Bros Melee/LoZ: Wind Waker/Unreal Tournament 2004/The Elders Scrolls III: Morrowind/Guild Wars->Starcraft II/Quake Live

This list could get large and unwieldy fast so keep it down to the bare minimum. Keep note that this is not necessarily a list of the best games you've ever played, or even games that you think are good. It's just games that you were in love with at the time, that left an impression on you or that otherwise helped shape you as a gamer. Don't start listing a whole bunch of sequels. I'm sure those are all good games, but it's likely the impressions they left were roughly the same.

What's the point of all this? No idea, but it's pretty fun to do for some reason.

SNES -> N64 -> PlayStation -> Xbox -> Playstation 2 -> Xbox 360

SNES GameBoy cartridge -> GameBoy Adv SP -> PSP -> DS Lite

Pilotwings on the SNES kindled my love for flight games, which was solidified by the Ace Combat series on the PS2.

Oh right, game progression.

Uh, my neighbor own an N64, so likely the first game I played was Super Mario 64.
In terms of games I owned, the first was Pokemon Yellow. I also got Oracle of seasons, and I've always preferred the 2D Zeldas. First console game was Super Mario Sunshine, and that along with 64 likely solidified my love of 3D Platformers. Which is a reason I've stuck with Nintendo consoles, you just don't find any halfway-decent platformers on the other systems.

We had a SNES, Gameboy color, N64, and PSX around when I was younger, and a NES in storage. These showed up in some vague order I can't recall. After that:
PS2->Gamecube->GBA->DS->Wii->PS3/XBox360->PSP->DSlite->WiiU.

As far as games go, I don't remember any specific order but:
Super Mario World/64 when I was younger, along with a lot of Cockfighting Society Snap and not understanding Cockfighting Society Yellow.

Some games I've played over the years were Wind Waker (first Zelda and all), Metroid Prime Trilogy (Fusion was basically the first game *I* owned, even if it was a gift), Ico, Silent Hill 2, and basically every Metal Gear game.

Most recentlly I've played Bayonetta, Vanquish, OFF, the Undetale demo, and I've been playing Monster Hunter 3U recently.

Maybe the Game Gear?

Gameboy+SNES -> GBC+PC (kinda throughout, but most notably here) -> N64+GBA -> GCN+Xbox (Also played my bro's PS2 a lot) -> DS+Wii -> DSi+360 -> 3DS+WiiU+PS2

Super Mario Land, A Link to the Past, Super Mario All Stars (specifically SMB2), Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart -> Pokemon Red, Simpson's Movie Maker, Croc, Icebreakers (I think that's what it's called, but I can't find it, if anyone can help that'd be great), Pokemon Gold, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Pokemon TCG-> Majora's Mask, Hey You Pikachu!, Pokemon Snap, Paper Mario, Super Mario Advance, Mario Party 3 -> Fable, Crazy Taxi, Wind Waker, Thousand Year Door, Pokemon Colo/XD, Pikmin, Double Dash, Super Mario Baseball, The Sims, Melee, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion -> Rhythm Heaven, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, NSMB, SMG, Okami -> The Sims 3 -> Persona 4, Fire Emblem Awakening, Animal Crossing: New Leaf (?), ???

It's kind of a lot of games, but these are the ones I constantly remember and go back to enjoy, and I think helped shape me quite a bit in very different ways. Many of them I played for months on end. if I had to limit them even more, my list would probably look like:

Link to the Past -> Pokemon Gold -> Paper Mario -> Wind Waker/Pikmin/TTYD -> PMD/SMG/PW -> Persona 4

GBA --> Gamecube --> giant gap where i didn't get any new stuff, consoles or games --> DS Lite --> mostly switched to PC

as for games, hmm. I have to list console games and PC games separately, because I'm not sure where they fall relative to each other.

Console:
Gen II Pokemon games --> Gen III Pokemon --> Zelda: Wind Waker (and to a lesser extent, Animal Crossing, Soul Calibur II, Pokemon Colosseum) --> giant gap where I just played those past games --> Pokemon HeartGold --> Halo: Reach (with a friend, don't own it or an Xbox) --> Pokemon White

...yeah I guess I was never big on consoles. My parents didn't really want to spend the cheddar on new games or systems most of the time. Presently I don't play much of this stuff anymore since my DS is crappy, but I am saving for a new one, so I may get back into it. I don't see me owning a home console anytime soon.

PC:
Lots of little games I don't remember (educational stuff, shareware packs, etc) --> Age of Mythology --> Rise Of Nations --> Halo --> I guess the gap goes here (I can't remember other games I played as much as those, AoM especially) --> TF2 --> Terraria --> Elder Scrolls: Oblivion --> League of Legends

I'm not 100% sure about the order of the current PC games I have, and there are others that I spend a lot of time with, those are just distinct in some way (for example I'm not that big on Terraria, but I played it with a friend and so that sentiment is there). Presently I spend most of my time in LoL.

I kinda want to start up some more Gamecube games that i missed out on this summer, as well as other games I haven't touched yet. On my list are Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid something or other, Amnesia: Dark Descent, Star Fox 64, some more playthroughs of Fallout and Oblivion... dunno if I'll get around to those.

Oh, and the giant gaps pretty much equate to high school. I got back into games big time in college.

I'll stick with systems for now.

SNES -> N64 -> PS1 -> Gamecube -> PS2 -> Xbox 360

Actually that's kind of short so I'll go with games too.

Super Mario All-Stars -> Ocarina of Time -> FFVII -> Morrowind

Bit of a short gamelist, but I chose the most definitive ones. Super Mario All-Stars got me into gaming in the first place. Ocarina of Time taught me that games could have a good storyline. Final Fantasy VII taught me that storylines could be so much deeper than linear fetch quests.

Morrowind though. Morrowind was THE definitive game of my life. It shattered everything I knew about games and constructed it from scratch again. A vast, open-ended world begging for exploration. Dialogue trees with speech options to coerce or threaten every single NPC I found. Randomly-generated loot from dungeons that threatened death every time I met an enemy, rather than just having to learn their tells and hack randomly. And most of all, a storyline that not only redefined what I thought game stories could be, but have it seep into every single pore of the world itself. The cities, the people, the artifacts, the gods, this game lived and breathed like nothing else I had ever seen.

That was the day Nintendo wasn't enough for me anymore. The shallow plots couldn't sustain me. I'd tasted ambrosia and nothing less would ever satisfy me.

Gameboy Pocket {Transparent master race} => like three Gameboy Colors => GBA => Gamecube => DS => Wii for like a week => 360

Mario Picross => Pokmans Bloo => Pokmans Crystal => SSX 3 and Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 => Mario Kart Double Dash => Metroid Prime => Halo 3 => Fallout NV

and Arcades in between all of those, I was a serious arcade rat.

Personally, the openness of the plots of a lot of Nintendo games made me love them even more.

I remember walking through the woods with friends looking for Pokemon, and making cardboard Zelda weapons to fight against Ganondorf. There's more imagination that can be put in to fill in holes and make the game your own.

Other series with more contained plots never captured me in the same way, even when playing them was a lot of fun.

I mean, hell, I remember coming up with a plot for Pacman when I used to play it a lot.

Maybe I'm just weird...

Gameboy + PC -> GBA + PC -> DS + PS2 -> 3DS + PC

You may notice I skipped gaming on a PC for a while there. I only play PC games now because I had to get a PC laptop and I might as well.

I played a lot of games, but my most memorable were:

Commander Keen/Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins/Pokemon Blue -> Starcraft/Morrowind/Neverwinter Nights/Pokemon Leaf Green/Summon Night:Swordcraft Story/Golden Sun/Breath of Fire IV -> Final Fantasy Tactics A2/Advance Wars DS/Ghost Trick/Ace Attorney/Final Fantasy X(-2)/Kingdom Hearts -> Legend of Zelda: OoT/Kingdom Hearts 3D/Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Oh, and that time I thoroughly beat Tatzel at Blazblue. I never played a lot of that game, but the moment itself made everything worth it.

Dreamcast + GBA -> GameCube + GBA/DS -> Wii + DS (and I bought like ten retro systems) + PS1 -> Wii + PS2 + XBox 360 + DS -> PC + XBox 360 + 3DS + iOS

Sonic Adventure(1+2) + Sonic Advance -> Lego Star Wars + SSBM + Pokemon Emerald -> Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team -> Megaman 2 + Fire Emblem Sacred Stones + Chrono Trigger + Pokemon Diamond + miscellaneous retro games -> Halo 3 + Sonic Unleashed/Generations/Colors + Halo Reach + Elder Scrolls 4/5 + Zelda OoT/Windwaker + probably more stuff I'm forgetting

Bolded games are the most important to me, which explains my inclusion of sequels as separate entries.

I still haven't beaten Chrono Trigger.
