AWKWARD ZOMBIE

So I got Catherine 4 days ago, and played trough it in one go more or less.
I really enjoyed the game, and I managed to 'save' only person, and I got the normal couple ending.

However, I think it wasn't worth full price, despite that I enjoyed it a lot. The storytelling and the gameplay are so heavily seperated, that they actually interfer with each other. For example, I was just enjoying all the cutscenes and the bar talk, and then it abruptly changes to the gameplay. And when I'm done with the level for a night, I get thrown into the lengthy talk sessions again. Don't get me wrong, both parts are really good by themselves, but the way they are seperated just clashes with each other which dampends the fun imo. Don't get me wrong, the story and the gameplay are related, but just the way they are 'cut' makes it feel a bit irritating. Also, I know that Catherine is very story and character intense and reliant, but it rather feels like a graphic novel with some innovative gameplay here and there than a real game.
Due to this, Catherine is better than average, but not good enough to be considered a good game (based on a game point). Or atleast, like I said, not worth 60€ which I normally pay for a newly released game.

When I thought I was done, the explanation to Catherine just fucking blew my mind. I thought it was genius that Catherine actually wasn't real, and Vincent just got insane from all the stress and pressure from Katherine and he imagined her up, because no one ever saw Catherine and everything related to her on Vincent's cell phone just vanished entirely. I was really, really disappointed when it turns out that there actually is a supernatural explanation, so she actually did exist and the nightmares are real yadda yadda. I really wished that Vincent was just imagining all of this. Altough I have to admit, that the barman was the 'bad guy' was cool again. I hoped until the very end that the developers would fix the story back to the initial explanation, or turn it around again so it wouldn't be supernatural. It was just even more disappointing that Vincent lied to Katherine in the end that he imagined things and it actually wasn't real. Sure he's correct, because Catherine doesn't exist, but eeeeeeeeeeeeh.

Apart from all of this, I think Vincent has the most hilarious faces.
And good lord Katherine is a bitch, I'm gonna enjoy the ending where Vincent dumps her sorry butt (when this ending exists).

I bodaciously just bought this game like half an hour ago. I haven't been able to play it yet but it looks pretty interesting.

I don't think I'll have to say it, but imo you should just answer honestly what you think in your first playtrough to see how it works, where the story is going, what's happening, etc.

And I don't know about you, but I think easy is pretty recommendable when you just start. You can change the difficulty any time during the game in the menu, so when you think it's too easy you can spike it up!

I'm not sure what I should attempt next, but seeing as you need top scores to get the gold price, and you need a certain amount of gold prices to unlock stages in Babel, I think I have no choice to start a new playtrough on normal. I need to look into some walktroughs to see how to get different endings. I wonder if I should just spice everything up and try to completely finish Rapunzel. Aswell as getting all the drink achievements. Oh man so much to do.

That's what I really like about Catherine, it got such an incredibly high replay value and things you can do.

Catherine's pretty fun, even though I'm pretty bad at it. I'm not sure what it is but these techniques I keep learning go in one ear and out the other so fast.

Also I don't get the point behind the retry pillows since apparently whenever I'm stuck I can just pause and retry and it won't take one up.

Really? I always lose a pillow when I retry the level from start or checkpoint. Maybe you found a bug or you collect a new retry pillow in the meantime so it looks like you didn't lose anything.

I checked the Catherine wiki and some walktroughs yesterday to see how to get all the endings and achievements. It makes my head hurt, there is just way too much. It's really cool because it shows how much you as the player can influence everything, but it gets pretty complicated when you want everything like I do.

I don't know, maybe I just failed to notice it or something. After playing it again I think I am, and just failed to realize it.

Either way I tend to collect these things like crazy (rarely have less than 15 or so on me) so it isn't much of a worry.

Also i'm only on the... third or fourth night, I'm not sure at the moment, but so far I've been getting a very neutral field going. Well, more of a flippy-floppy one I guess. I was in the blue for a while there but after two or three conversations I dipped drastically. Not sure what I did, but I admit it's nice to see something that's I guess similar to a morality meter that isn't ridiculously bipolar.

Unless you already peeked, after you're finished with the game, you get told what exactly the meter is about. A lot of results from the answers towards the meter make a lot more sense when you know.

Two days ago I got three more endings, I liked the good freedom ending. I have an idea now how the true freedom ending will go, but this one's gotta wait until my last playtrough. Also already decided that I will play with hard difficulty for my last playtrough, getting all gold prices - sweetest victory.

Something happened at the true lover ending though which made it good again for me (the cake was glorius aswell)

Yeah she is. During the normal story, near the end one or two days after Toby said that they had sex together, Erica mentions that she's tired too since a bit, which makes Toby wonder that after all it doesn't matter if it's male or female, and he better watch out that he's not getting those dreams too - totally naive and innocent, and also no one else mentioning something towards it.

And during the true lover ending, Toby is pretty miffed and asking for his virginity back, while Erica says that back then she was known as "Eric".

I totally didn't see that coming, and it was just so goddamn brilliant.

Yeah, it was! I guess I got the true lover ending. Even though everyone except the reporter guy, and someone (I forget his name) who ran off with his fiance. I want to play more of Catherine, maybe even on hard mode, but there's always someone around that would either be creeped out by cut scenes or when I'm climbing the blocks.

I really liked one of the questions in the confession booth. It asked if you answered these questions according to how you feel, or towards how the game will turn out. I picked "How I feel" and it went towards the bad side. Although, it makes sense, kinda. A lieing person would choose that one, wouldn't they? But, a truthful person would choose the other one.. Or, it's a double negative?

I don't think it makes sense, it should be the other way around. But then again, the 'bad' side is not bad but it means freedom, so I guess when you say that you answer truthfully it means that you stay true to yourself and don't care what other people think about you, whereas law means that you would answer what people want to hear of you.
