I was level 40 when I beat him, party of minstrel, mage, thief, martial artist.

And on the Paladin subject, they get kerplunk, which kills them but rezzes everyone else. Alternatively, since they can wield wands, give them the wand guide, and they can use that to rez.

What's the wand guide?

Btw, I've found that having a Priest and a Paladin in the same party helps a TON
