Shantae Thread: Of half-genies and pirates

Shantae, a game about a belly dancing half genie battling an evil she-pirate, was released for Game Boy Color after the Game Boy Advance had been released. As a result, it went virtually unnoticed by consumers.

WayForward, not willing to give up, attempted to create several other Shantae games, including the infamous "Shantae Advance" (also known as Shantae 2: Risky Revolutions), a DS game called Shantae: Risky Waters, and even an unnamed Playstation 2 game! Unfortunately, none of those were ever released.

However, in 2009, a DSiWare sequel was finally released. This game sparked the interest of new fans and delighted old fans. As a result, Shantae has become a series of its own, with a new game out now for 3DS and Wii U and another game coming soon to every current platform, excluding Mac, Linux and 3DS but including Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Ugh, this series is still in half-genie status? You would think it would have advanced by now.

Is Australia ever going to get a timely release of Pirate's Curse and Half-Genie Hero? Nope!

For the people who've played Pirate's Curse, how does it hold up compared to Risky's Revenge?

For one thing it's got different gameplay, replacing magic with Pirate Gear, allowing for even more Metroidvania style exploration.

Some of the backtracking is ridiculous but most of it is fun exploration.

The bosses mostly just use the Pirate Gear you got on the island as a gimmick to defeat them, but it's handled well, so I can't complain.

Pirate's Curse finally came out today in Australia! Huzzah! I've been loving it so far. Although, I still wonder how in the heck this game can be rated G for General Audiences here, I mean, just look at all the fanservice! Not that i'm complaining?

Looking forward to Half Genie Hero!
