Man I don't think I've played a single JRPG. Am I missing out?

Yes. The biggest difference between Western RPG and JRPG is that JRPG's have defined characters, which lets the writers tell a much more complex story since they don't need to try including every single variation of a character the player makes. This in turn allows them to give greater depth to the characters and their interactions with each other.

The Tales series, The World Ends With You, Etrian Odyssey, Shin Megami Tensei, etc, are all great examples of JRPG's.

Home systems: Older bro's ZX Spectrum > NES > Megadrive (Genesis) > 32X (yep) > N64 > Dreamcast > Wii

Handhelds: Gameboy Color > Gameboy Advance > DS > 3DS

Also some PC gaming in there - Dungeon Keeper in particular was a thing me and some school buds played a lot.

I actually played video games a lot in actual gaming arcades when I was a kid; The Space Harrier arcade booth actually moved and tilted while you played the thing and flew about so probably left the most lasting impression on me.

I also played RoadBlasters a lot - y'know that game from Wreck-It Ralph - the one 'Turbo' hijacked?

It was real and I played it.

The graphics were like nothing I had ever seen.
