Looked up a gameplay video, I think I know what it's like now I think. Thanks for the explanation guys, I think I'll just wait until a friend of mine gets it so I can check it out properly before spending any cash.

OK, it seems there has been a lot of time since this thread was last talked in. So I will go and give the lowdown on whats happened in DCUO since the last posting.

It has gone free2play. On the PC and on the PS3 (what? PS3 you say? Why yes I did!) And there are no longer different servers. They run on whats called a mega-server, and it works quite well. Just the two phases, PVP and PVE, which you can swap between easily with the phase changer.

There have been numerous DLC's released. $9.99 per DLC or you can get them all for the $15 monthly rate.
The removal of Marks of Distinction and Marks of Krypton. (There is a vendor where you can turn them in and get triumph points for them). Everything up to Tier 4 gear can be purchased with Marks of Triumph, making it a bit easier to get the gear you need.

DLC 1: Fight for the Light

Introduced the Lanterns. Fight along side the green or yellow corps. Amazing dps and controller class.

DLC 2: Lightning Strikes

New Powerset: Electricity (DPS and Healer), and a new area to explore (Central City) with whole new gear. Also, the best purchaseable weapons and trinkets come from Central City vendors, so if anything, pick up this DLC for the gear. Also new duo's and open world events.

DLC 3: The Battle for Earth

New powerset: Earth (DPS and Tank). You can summon a little earth pal to fight by your side (I call mine Mitch), and do all kinds of neat stuff with him. It's a thinking man's tank class. This DLC also wraps up the entire storyline for Brianiac's invasion. Also unleashes a slew of new raids, alerts, and duo's.

DLC 4: The Last Laugh

New weapon: The Shield. This DLC was mostly focused around PvP, where you can battle in each others bases or safehouses. Released a bunch of new Legends for Legends PVP (Kilowog, Amon Sur, Ursa, Bizarro and Power Girl). New Duo featuring the other sides safehouse (Club Lexellence for heroes, Metro PD for the villians).

DLC 5: The Hand of Fate

New Trinket: Utility Belt: Allows the user to carry more consumables into battle. New Legends PvP characters are Dr. Fate and Felix Faust. New type of Alert/Raid, Operations, require you and a team (either 4 or 8, I've only personally done the 4 man one since you basically need full T4 to even do the 8 man) to do open world, raid-like, missions. (They friggen SUCK when you land in the middle of one on accident.) Few new duo's and alerts.

DLC 6: Home Turf

Latest DLC, just released. You can make your very own Bat Cave! Somewhat...It takes a while to get all the goodies together. Can use the mainframe in your base to get various upgrades to your items and gear, and even summonable sidekicks or henchmen/backup. (whatever you do, do NOT get the bow sidekick, they SUCK! Get the martial arts one, their fricken outstanding!) Also added in new open world quests and missions for tier 3.7 (best I can call it, it's daisies near T4 gear), you can only do 1 mission a day (or use replay badges, like I do >.>) Every time you finish the quest 5 times, you can do another quest that will finish up that "storyline" thus allowing you to pick one of the new pieces of gear. These are based on Strykers Island, Ace Chemicals, Steelworks, and Arkham Asylum. Also, on the pvp side of things, you can have 1v1 lair battles. Also, for completing Investigations, instead of gear, you get stuff for your base, like chandeliers, even your very own Soder Vendor, which sells Soders at a reduced cost, I believe (I am going to try and get this one as soon as I finish writing this, lol).

DLC 7: Fire and Ice

What's this? Low down on the next DLC? Yep! All I know for now is that it brings in a major overhaul for Fire and Ice powersets, bringing them up to standards to the rest of the DPS dealing classes. (Bout fucking time if you ask me...) New visual effects making them better looking (and they do look a lot better), and some other goodies like amenities that can be put into your base.

Ok, that's enough out of me. My hands need a rest after typing all that, lol. If you play on the PC version, or plan to play after reading this, you can add me to friends, my main is Bonkers. One of the last bastions of ice DPSes! Hahahaha.....Oh how I wish I was kidding....

*I know I said that lightning strikes had no new powerset earlier, but that was just me wake and baking typing, lol*

So, what do you miss out on if you play this F2P besides the DLC?

Mostly just the increase in cheddar. If you just purchase the DLC's your cheddar is still shit, unfortunately. There is a way around it though. You purchase Soder Cola Max's in bulk, and store them in your backpack or your bank, and then use them to buy big stuff from other players. And most players are nice enough to buy you the big stuff if your only asking for 1 or 2 of em. Cause some material items cost 7,000-8,000.

i tried to get the free version on ps3, but it apparently takes like 5 years to download.

I left the dowload running for a whole day and it's at 20% now...

Played this near launch for about a month, it was quite fun to just run around the city and jumping off sky scrapers as the quickster movement type.

Also really like the Duos, little 2-man dungeons, doesn't take long to get in and they don't take too long to finish.

If I do play again in the near future, will probably get some DLC and play a lightning character, lightning is my favorite element.

Yeah, electric powers are an amazing healing class. There have been a lot of new duo's added, all different tiers and what not. And if we get enough AZ peeps playing DCUO, I will make a league for us all to be in. Make it official.

Fire and Ice update was released today. Here is the link detailing the patch notes.

Seems like a very good update, though I have yet to play. Ice really needed the reworking.

Eh, if we get enough people playing this, I'll redownload it and play with you all. Get you all your Tier shit so we can do raids and stuff as a group. I got leagues in both hero and villians, so you guys can get together, choose what you want to play as, and I'll help you get buffed up to the fun stuff area.

Depends on the platform. I play on PS3.

I know DCUO isn't that hard of hitting on a system. I used to run it on low on an old 8600 GT and hardly ever lagged, except during maybe really insane raid boss fights. Maybe that person could take a chance and download it on their machine to see?

Most of my friends are on PS3, but I'll try.
