Been playing this with an xbox controller.
And for that reason alone it is amazing.
Does it have native support?
Cryptic's MMO engine was designed from the ground up to be used on PCs and Xbox 360s. For example,
Champions Online and
Star Trek Online were initially going to be on those two platforms, but Microsoft got cheddar hungry and the deal fell through.
Champions Online has fully integrated 360 controller support, complete with user interface button prompts.
Star Trek Online has some UI elements and basic controls mapped. I imagine
Neverwinter offers the same level of support as
Star Trek Online, at a minimum. It may need some tweaking, but it'll run fairly easily.
Things to know:
- Control Wizards are currently overpowered as all get out in PvP. If you roll one, expect to get hit with the nerf bat fairly soon.
- The individual servers are being merged into one mega-shard shortly. If you aren't on the same server as a friend of yours, this won't be a problem for much longer.
- Everything in the C-Store can be acquired in-game by hoarding Astral Diamonds and converting them to Zen via a player-controlled market.
- Don't be surprised if you join a channel and hear people talking about capes and warp cores in addition to the standard sword and shield fare. All mail messages, friend/ignore lists, and user-made custom chat channels are shared between Neverwinter, Champions Online, and Star Trek Online. You can also send /tells to people playing these games.
- When Neverwinter launched, it caused massive instability for all three games because they're all heavily integrated. This led to six crashes and twelve hours of downtime over a period of six days. Conditions have dramatically improved since then, however, Star Trek Online is launching its Legacy of Romulus expansion this Tuesday. There may be widespread connectivity issues for all games after launch.
