I don't get it.
Is there a benefit to building them, which is significantly better than having them remain built?
Or is this a 'quest completion' thing?
Why would a player build and destroy stuff this fast?
I mean, I'd probably still change my mind now and then, but this feels like it's referring to a game mechanic I don't get.

The joke is that she's coming up with an explanation for why something unexplainable happened. The "player" isn't doing it. So the player character would be the one to do it.

One of us, probably me, misunderstood what she meant by that.
I interpreted it to be referring to the amenity she herself is demolishing and rebuilding - which therefore spends most of its time as a construction site, so that's what it might as well be counted as.
(The part about it being a bug, which I thought was referring to the 'becoming other attractions' part, would be a joke in that case)

None of them are demolished at any point. They're actually kept in an inventory of their own. You can only have two amenities displayed at once, is all. An amenity boosts the level cap of the matching Villager's theme. So The Swimming Pool is "Cool" so all Cool themed villagers get raised to a level cap of 25 (the current maximum) when you build it.

But yeah while they're not technically demolished it sure is funny the way that in order to progress in the game you are encouraged to keep building/upgrading amenities constantly... thereby making it potentially impossible for the villagers to actually make use of them.
