I've been meaning to try this game, despite it looks like a rip-off of Harvest Moon, it looks promising.
But then again the games currently using the "Harvest Moon" titles are rip-offs of Harvest Moon, since the localization of the new titles in the canon series were legally forced to change its name to Story of Seasons.
It only looks to be a rip-off, rest assured. Gameplay-wise, not a single Harvest Moon can hold a candle to it. Basically all of the annoying mechanics of the HM series that made the games less fun are absent (including, most importantly, the fact that you cannot accidentally toss what you're carrying onto the ground like a spaz; how was that never made into an AZ comic?).
Well to be fair, both Harvest Moon: A New Beginning and Story of Seasons (Justified that they both share the same engine) actually has everything you drop just plop on the ground and you can pick it up whenever. This is actually a useful mechanic as it's the only way to feed the wild animals around town, as until they trust you, feeding them directly just ticks them off.
As well as the games seem to get more and more useful features as the series goes on. Like the more you cook, the more your food level goes up, and can sell for more and more. Same with fishing, the more I fish, the more my fish level goes up until even the cheapest fish are more or less a gold mine, yet this takes FOREVER to do.
And Story of Seasons introduces the "greenhouse" where with the right item, you can grow re-harvestable crops for as long as you want. I've had the same tomatoes for about two seasons now and (even faster with fertilizing daily) their level just gets higher and higher with no downside in sight.
