I guess otherwise the implication is that Snake carries around a lit cigar in his pocket all day?

Snake at this point probably shouldn't be around cigars

Let's be honest here. Him carrying a lit cigar in his pocket would still make more sense than the explanation most things were given in MGS4

someone with more time than me will inevitably combine this comic with the yowling broken leg burning cigar one.

I'm personally waiting for the TF2 Spy "Gentlemen" edit, where he has 50 cigars at once lighting up the entire cave.

Also, two lighter lit template panels for those that want them.

My reasoning is that, that lighter gives off way more light than it normally should. There is a trope for that called Nuclear Candle

Somebody should make an edit where he turns on the lighter, sees Nowi, and quickly extinguishes the lighter.

Either I'm overthinking your joke, or you don't understand either light or scale.

Man, this was the one part of the game I really disliked; like I felt the game was broken.
I honestly restored an old save and started searching around for a flashlight I had missed, but it was not to be found. If there was one,t hat would have been so much the better. I like the idea of actually having options in a game, instead of them forcing you to get things only when they deem fit.

In the original Metal Gear Solid, you have one chance to get the IR goggles early in the game. If you actually look around and find them, you can have them before you leave the first building. If you don't, you need to use your cigarette to see the IR beams. And of course, you can come back later and get the IR goggles, but at that one point where having them is not necessary but makes things so much easier, you COULD have them if you play it right.
I thought that's what the game was doing in MGS3, but nooooo, they want you to shut the game off for a few hours so that your eyes adjust to the dark. LAME!

Is that legit? I would have been like, "Excuse me, video game, stop trying to make me go have a life because I have to wait a couple hours before I can play again."

Then again, this is a game where cigars heal leeches and light up dark areas, the logic part of my brain would probably explode if I tried to play it

Well the cigar burns off the leeches, and wasn't there totally a torch like a few feet away? I rather liked the idea of navigating a cavern by cigar light, fits Snake's character.

Kojima loves doing these sorts of things to you.

At least it's not like Boktai - as much as I love those games, you have to play outside, in actual sunlight, to properly defeat bosses. Otherwise, you're stuck with some Evil in a Can - a can you have to drag around until the sun smiles on your cart's little sensor and grants you some bars on the in-game sun meter.
