It's in spoiler tags because heaven forbid we spoil a minor plot point about a game from 1989 that was already spoiled in the comic. It's also not explained very well? So. In Earthbound, the world of Magicant is the physical incarnation of Ness's mind. In Super Smash Bros 4, it's a battle stage.
