All the furniture is randomly leaves for some reason. It expands into whatever it is when you put it in a room. I always figured it had to do with the fact that the store owner is a raccoon and in japanese lore they kind of turn stuff into other stuff with leaves.

Tom Nook is a Tanuki, and in Japan Tanuki have the mystical power to turn things (most notably cheddar) into leaves and vice versa

Remind me to never go to Japan, then. I do not like my cheese in leaf form.

I thought tanukis had the power to turn themselves into stone statues.
