The two comics share the same delivery, exactly the same. Tell me, is it not possible that you could suddenly think of what might happen if there was something wrong with Awkward Zombie? Plagarism is one of the more common signs with writer's block, that's hardly an original idea.

So, we have the hot new artist, as usual with gaming-themed comics, except they then applied an exact replication of a basis with their own art style or something equally horrifying. Or maybe they just thought too hard on the last one.

As for the original creator of the comic, what is a common gesture for two people who don't know each other and one wishes to rehash the primary idea? Asking, and recognizing it is inconceivable. You guessed it, plagarism.

There, I just broke down the entire process. Can you see now how lack of creativity can occur through a common thought?

This comic was posted somewhere and over 100 people saw it there and recognized it as a copy of the original comic, and decided to take action in one form or another.

In reference to your point, I simply think it's a very real possibility that two people can make a similar comic without realising it. Like I said, the joke and the execution aren't exactly complex.
