I don't understand why people want Ridley in Smash. He is a giant purple space lizard with no personality. I also don't like Wolf and I am glad he is not in Smash 4.

If he has no personality, it's because for the most part, the Metroid games don't seem too big on that. Ridley's just kinda there. He's a big, supposedly intelligent space pirate purple dragon. From space. That works for a spiky, one-eyed brain that lives in a tank and can inexplicably turn in to a science experiment gone wrong to combine T-Rex DNA with computers and tanks that shoot rainbow lasers.

That said, he's wanted because he's cool, and because people wanna make Samus beat the shit out of Ridley in yet another game.

You would actually be mistaken in that assumption. Fans of Metroid know that Ridley is actually a tactical genius who is just as intelligent as Samus. He simply seems unintelligent because he doesn't speak English (mostly because he's really xenophobic) and because of his animalistic battle style, which actually serves to show his brutal and cruel personality. His battle style may not appear to be "intelligent", but every move he makes is most likely well thought out-but executed in a brutal fashion. Also Ridley built a robotic duplicate of himself for the lolz, so he's also a little narcissistic.
:eng101: So in conclusion Ridley actually does have a personality, much like how the other silent Nintendo characters have their own personalities.

I knew he was intelligent and tactical - I couldn't recall where I'd read that, however, and since I knew I wouldn't be able to back it up, I didn't put it forward.

My best defense would be "You don't get to work for someone called Mother Brain, much less as one of her top lieutenants, by being dumb muscle."

I also can't remember where I picked up that Ridley was a high-ranking Space Pirate...or for that matter, anything beyond "SPACE DRAGON!".

It's also worth mentioning that I never said they have no personalities, but more that it doesn't seem to be a big factor in Metroid games. Narratives, dialogue, discussion, fleshing these people out...it's kinda scarce compared to other features. Like exploring environments and blasting the everloving hell out of everything you meet.

As a slightly more personal aside, "Fans of Metroid know" - stop there. No thanks. That steps dangerously close to trying to say what qualifies you to be a "true fan".

He just wants to fit in.

Glad you enjoyed it. I just wish I didn't procrastinate on making it for as long as I did.

It mostly took so long to get started because the task of having to tear down an entire wall and rebuild it so Ridley could have a plus-sized room to fit his large disposition was rather troublesome. After all, a giant purple space dragon that leads an entire space army of space pirates needs more space to stretch his wings before his return trip to space: in Space!

But I really couldn't just stop there; I had to break down the wall to the other room, of course. That was a lot of effort in and of itself, and as you can probably imagine, Samus wasn't too fond of the idea. However, after a bit of debating and bargaining, I finally managed to get Samus moved to the Ice Climbers' old room.

So, after getting her room cleared out, and boxing up a bunch of old upgrades she apparently lost under the bed, it was time to redecorate for Ridley! Unfortunately, regular beds don't work to well for heavy creatures like giant purple space dragons. So, I decided a nest-style sleeping space would work wonders, and Ridley was quite agreeable. I also considered changing the wallpaper, but we decided a fresh coat of paint would be just fine.

And that's how I fit Ridley into that room.
Come, to think of it, I forgot to widen the door. So I guess he's still stuck in there. Oh well.

And there's your explanation for why that edit took so long to make! And you didn't even have to ask! Yes!

The argument that Ridley only displays animalistic behaivour and never talks english as a reason to not be included in smash falls apart when the Villager is a literal blank slate, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Lucario, Greninja, Charizard and the Duck Hunt dog are all actual real animals and Little Mac's defining character trait is "good boxer".

I mean Nintendo is built on characters who don't make their personality obvious.

I believe both of his trophies from melee and brawl explain his intelligence.
Also Ridley doesn't work for Mother Brain per se, he is a big wig for the Space Pirates, and when he led an attack on Zebes he found MB as like a rogue Chozo A.I. and they sort of agreed to work together for mutual benefit. (I might be wrong here, but I think that's how it went down)

Yeah personalities have never been much of an "on the surface" thing in any Metroid game (or any Nintendo game now that I think about it) Then again that's what makes it cool find out more about these characters. It really has stopped me from judging any Nintendo character at face value.

Sorry if the "Fans of Metroid" thing rubbed you the wrong way, I didn't mean it like that. I was just saying that people who like Metroid a lot are usually the ones who know Ridley's backstory, I wasn't trying to imply anything.

I don't feel bad at all about completely discounting any "evil" done by Mario and Kirby villains. Mostly because Mario and Kirby don't care about it either. They have a race to see who can eat the most cake by the time they get to the end of the racetrack, and all is forgiven.

While I agree with this sentiment, Kirby is a really bad example. Besides Dedede, Kirby destroys every single villain he encounters. Hell, in some games, he even destroys their SOULS! Honestly, after Squeak Squad, I came to believe that Kirby is the REAL villain of that series.

He destroys them because if he didn't, they'd stop at nothing to destroy or take over Pop Star.

Meanwhile the Squeak Squad, Dedede, Meta Knight, and several others he has fought were spared because they surrendered. Hell, Magolor survived and he didn't surrender.

If the game treats it lightly and doesn't show it on-camera, it's hard for the player to take it seriously. You never once actually see Ganondorf harm a single person or give his henchmen a single order in most of the games, to my recollection; much less set fire to Nibelheim and then fall from the ceiling and impale Aeris. The vast majority of what he does is simply stuff you're assuming he did. Like, there's never any proof that he didn't take over Castle Town peacefully. It's kind of a safe assumption that he probably sunk the castle into the lava and killed a lot of people, but not only do you not see it, but no one ever even actually says he did it. Or says anything specific about the deaths of anyone being the result of Ganondorf, with maybe a couple exceptions, like... one death every few games. Apparently ultra-vague remarks like "His evil power radiated out from the temples, and in seven short years, it transformed Hyrule into a world of monsters" and repeatedly calling him the King of Evil are supposed to be enough to make me hate him. Everyone dances around what he did like they're hiding something, making me think that they're probably all fucking liars and Ganondorf didn't do any of it.

-Killed the Great Deku tree.
-Threatened the Gorons with starvation if they didn't comply.
-Tried to kill Lord Jabu-Jabu.
-Killed the composer brothers.
-Killed at least one guard when attacking Hyrule Castle.
-Stole the Triforce with the intent of using its power to impose his will onto the world.
-Burned Hyrule Castle Town to the ground and filled it with ReDeads. (Or maybe that just happened on it's own, I don't know. Either way, the soldiers probably just let him do his thing unopposed.)
-Filled Kokiri Forest with monsters (along with all the temples).
-Imprisoned the Gorons so that he could feed the entire race to an ancient dragon that he revived in order to set an example to the other races. (Granted; Genocide < Killing the party's healer.)
-Froze all the Zoras except for the one that got away.
-Grew his eyebrows into his hair.

But yeah, he's probably innocent.

Makes me wonder why the Hyrulean Gorons are extinct in the downfall timeline though...

Sorry guys, haven't seen the originals for Katie's Smash Comics yet so there may be a reason for this, but is there a particular reason why every Original Smash character but Jigglypuff is represented in this comic?

Well if you do what I've done with Jiggles in Melee and Brawl, then it should be obvious: Jigglypuff is off the side of the screen, jumping up into the air, and spamming Rollout back onto the stage and/or Rollout spamming related suicides. Repeatedly.

Jigglypuff is too hard to draw, obviously.
