That reminds me of a comment some flash artists once made about how games with a serious tone are a lot harder to make fun of than those that don't take themselves too seriously.

Thats definitely the case with WoW, Blizzard never lets realism get in the way of fun.

Serious things - be they in games or in real-life situations - have a hell of a lot of comedy value if you know how to parody them correctly.

Being able to make something serious into something funny (but still tasteful) reflects the true abilities of the writer/illustrator.

If something is already funny I'd question the value of illustrating it.

That's one of my main criticisms of Katie's work - rather than just illustrate what already happens in-game, I'd like to see her put a new, unexpected spin on videogame situations more often.

But that's my own crazy approach to comedy, so, whatever.

I love how everytime Katie makes a comic deemed "unfunny" everyone jumps on the "OMGZ she's losing her funny!" bandwagon.

I love how all the WoW headcases went off on a tangent talking about motorcycles or something rather than the comic itself.

Great.

Which is why I laughed my booty off at US comedians saying "Obama is too serious to make funny. We'll miss Bush for the jokes!"

They never heard of satire or wit, it seems.

Has anyone pointed out that it's "Divine Shield" for pallies and not "Divine Protection"?

Because, if not, I would like to pick that nit.

ALSO none of these techniques work if you accidentally autowalk off outlands baaaaaw DDD:

Divine Protection did prevent fall damage before they changed it to a pseudo-shield wall.

I didn't like this panel.
It just didn't seem very... action-y. It didn't stand out from the rest of the comic, which it probably should, 'cause it helps deliver/is part of the punchline or whatever. The sound effect is especially bad, because it covers the guy's face and the possibility of an expression like this:
Image
which looks a lot more dynamic.
Notice the sound effect doesn't cover her face here.

(At first I wrote that as "Notice the CRACK doesn't cover her face." hurrhurr.)

I think it's to cover the mass amounts of blood that inevitably would come from having your own tusks being impaled into your brain/eyes/nose/mouth/face/whatever

There's also the second mage ability missing (which I finally got to work a few times).

1. auto-run off something stupid.
2. Blink just before you hit the ground.

Unfortunitly it has 3 outcomes:

1. You did it wrong. *dead*
2. It took you back to the top. Now, stop before you auto-run to your dea-, oh too late. *dead*
3. You're now 15 feet forward at ground level. Gz.

Really useful if you don't have feathers.

Yeah, I don't even know why I'm posting this.

Sorry for the un-funny edit. It just popped into my head when I read that little yellow box.

You're right, it doesn't really lend itself well and now I see why. Also I'm apparently running out of sound effects. :psyduck:

Decline of Video Gaming?

Oh, and this comic was okay but there WERE NOT ENOUGH RIDICULOUS SOUND EFFECTS.
