When I read this comic, I didn't focus on Norrin. I focused on the fact that this was Cockfighting Society, and therefore my first impression was "Incoming Cockfighting Society low-hanging fruit". If she wanted to exaggerate the fact that fishing is ridiculous, she'd have the line snap instead of putting in a trollface Wailmer. The point seems to be more "look at the funny faces in this Cockfighting Society reference!!!"

Except a large part of humour is suffering (Which is why people love slapstick and pratfalls) it's funnier to see her straining to accomplish it, than failing from the beginning.

Also funny faces are Katie's Brand™. It's more of an aesthetic choice and rarely the joke.

So you're just complaining about this comic because it's a Pokemon comic and you don't like Pokemon. Which is not a valid criticism at all.

You could say I have years of experience looking at toilets.

I have a collection. My favorite is from Orizontes, a restaurant on top of Mt. Lycabettus in Athens Greece. It was self cleaning.

No, he's complaining about this comic because he thinks Cockfighting Society comics are "too easy" which is a valid criticism. It's also easy to follow the logical progression that comes to that conclusion.

Step 1: People associate mocking things with dislike of those things.
Step 2: Mocking things for the sake of mocking them(not adding anything *intellectual to the discussion) is trite.

And it's easy to fall into the trap where you ignore Step 1a: Sometimes people mock things because the love them, and it is an expression of that love.
If you've ever been in a discussion where anime fans get really angry at people who say negative things about their animes when it's obvious that those people were as much of, if not bigger, fans of those animes, then that would be readily apparent.


*When I say "intellectual" I include the highlighting of something that might go unnoticed by the average person, but may be glaringly obvious in hindsight.

And I disagree with the notion that Pokemon comics are "too easy". It shuts off an entire topic of humor, as if because of its apparent ease, we are no longer allowed to have comics regarding said subject. Are all web comics that uses Pokemon as the subject now taking the easy route out?

AquaBat was right, if you don't even like the the topic of the joke, then chances are you wouldn't like the joke. Which makes up most of his arguments, which can basically be summed up as "you should be writing about thistopic that I personally find funny, not that topic. That's how you make a good comic".

He's free to his opinion, of course, but when you post said opinion in a whiny fashion, don't be upset when there's backlash.

Agreed, I just feel it's important not to misrepresent, and by extension disregard someone's point when better results can come from addressing it.

Except for the last part. I feel uncomfortable telling someone they shouldn't be upset over something. Be prepare for it, and be able to handle it, sure, maybe. But not just "don't be upset" altogether.

So the comic is bad and that's valid criticism just because it uses Pokemon as a source?
I wonder, if this was a comic that instead of Pokemon used Animal Crossing characters, same expressions, but a Whale Shark instead of a Wailmer, that would make this comic somehow better? How about a Monster Hunter fishing up a Plesioth?

I demand all of those alternative comics to be made before I can allow others to be pop flyin'.

A valid criticism isn't necessarily a correct one. Think of the difference between accuracy and precision. It's a lot like that.

Maybe it would have been received better if it used a different source, as expectations would have shifted more favorably maybe, but no, it would be the same, just appeal to a slightly different audience and in a slightly different way.

Also a much smaller audience.

Number of people who have played Pokemon is EASILY greater than the number of people who have played Animal Crossing AND the number of people who have played Monster Hunter. More people get the joke = better

I'll let someone else do the Animal Crossing one.

And yes that is a very small Plesioth. They exist.

I'm sad now. I was going to change my avatar to someone in the dapper as hell Bnahabra Armor, but I couldn't find an image in a quick google search which fully encapsulates its magnificence.
