For anyone who thinks it makes no sense for archers to not be able to shoot adjacent enemies, they can but they'll provoke an attack of opportunity against each of them and they'll all get a +2 flanking bonus to their attack rolls.

Unless the archer picks the Point-Blank Master feat, but I doubt the poor sod in this comic has a high enough level.

I remember leveling up a dancer in FE:A by trapping an archer in a corner in a similar fashion and having her spam dance for about half an hour. Good times.

This is just my interpretation but I think its showing the archer knows whats about to happening when Ike shows up and starts to panic and as he calms down he realizes its to late and he is surrounded

"What are they doing? Why am I not being attacked?"

"Why are they all standing close to me?"

"Why are there MORE OF THEM?"

"...SHIT" as he realizes he is now stuck
