Ah, thank you for clearing that up. The curse was the bit I was forgetting, and I knew it was confirmed in-game.
As to the Hero's Shade, well... consider this. Ocarina Of Time is the game where the timeline fractures into three separate timelines. What if one of the timelines had actually severed the reincarnation cycle -- by going backwards in time, Link severed himself from the timeline of the world. What we see is Original Link trapped within his skeletal corpse, whereas his descendants are just people who *only happen to be* named Link, but aren't directly his reincarnation anymore. (EDIT: Trimmed for length!)
That's an interesting way to look at it. But I think that before him there was a Link that wasn't a reincarnation. I don't really know how to explain this, but let me try. Focusing only on the child timeline and everything up until then; I think there are two(Maybe three) incarnations of Link that are being reincarnated over time. It's hard to really pinpoint who is who, but I like to think The first Link, SS Link, and OOT Link are all the same, and that MC Link, FS Link, and FS+ Link are the same. If you see where I'm going with this(Aside from the realistic vs. toon style), Link, SS, and OoT all fight Demise/Ganondorf. while MC, FS, and FS+(at first) are dealing with Ganon's underlings. I still haven't quite figured out where TP fits in, part of me wants to say he's his own incarnation, but part of me wants to think he and SS are the same, while the first Link and OoT are the same, but.... yeah, I'm making this confusing. Thoughts?

Actually, Demise's specific wording was that his curse was upon those who shared "the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero".
So, Link is defined by reincarnation, and Zelda by bloodline. At least as far as the curse goes.
Meanwhile, there are maybe two Gamondorfs. He's pretty good at sticking around.
Yeah, I couldn't think of the exact wording at the time, I still believe Zelda in at least most of the games are reincarnations of Hylia, mainly because of her magical ability, and her wisdom, though I could see something similar to what I posted above with Link happening with her.
Two Ganondorfs? I don't know about that, may I ask where that's coming from?
