God it was hard to track down what you were talking about, but I finally found it (don't worry, I won't name it/link it). You're right though, it's just god aweful. It's more hard core pron than anything. The only thing "webcomic" about it is that it's in a "webcomic" format (drawn out pictures where you have 5 or 6 panels shown per day/week).

And for the record...you made me curious.

I read that comic back in fifth grade.

I now wish I hadn't.

Did you see the link and say, "That looks like it has a deep plot."

I don't even know. I was a weird kid. I think a lot of it went over my head.

Who said 'Jack' was a bad webcomic?

A lot of people on Cracked's "Worst Webcomic" thread, actually. I mentioned it here as well, briefly.

I called it depraved, not bad, on account of all the questionable content that it tends to get into. Raping small children who have cancer, for instance, is not justifiable even if the act is committed by one of the antagonists and frowned upon by the rest of the cast. The people who commented on it thought that it was entirely unnecessary for establishing an unlikable character, and I agree. It was also hardly the only time in the comic that something like that happened.

Most people from that thread also had a problem with the comic's means of introducing new characters with stories independent from the main plot, which were never heard from again after their stories had run their course. Some of them had problems with the writing and art style, but I remember the biggest problem being the way that the main story gets ignored so often.

Another interesting fact: The authors of both Concession and Furthia High (exactly what it sounds like) joined the thread to defend their webcomics and admitted that they didn't like the author of Jack, but I can't recall their specific reasons.

Isn't "Jack" reviled over most of the Internets anyway?

I think you left out spelling errors, Ganelon.

My apologies, I'm terrible at spelling things incorrectly.

Rest assured that once I am no longer needed in this thread, I will return to my lurking.

No, I meant Jack having spelling errors.

I'm hardly an expert on the subject. I have more knowledge about the opinions of the people who didn't like Jack than I have opinions about Jack itself. Nobody mentioned any spelling errors amidst the hand-written text, but they may not have read too far into the archives.

I read Jack, and like it.

Honestly never saw a problem with the way that the story progressed, being that I was always the most interested with whatever was presented to me at the time, whether or not it was connected, and that I read a lot of webcomics when they first start, so I'm not bothered by a lack of closure. It also occurs to me that people who join their forum have a better understanding of the story than I do, because they have a very well-knit forum community with gratuitous communication and interaction with the creator.

If you think the comic goes too far, that's your prerogative; sometimes, I agree that the material goes too far in terms of "shock value", but it always helps me feel a little more strongly about what's going on in the story, and it's never presented in a way that actually offends so much as it simply puts you on defense, makes you a little wary. It's certainly not for everybody.

I'd like to think that the majority of the people who hate Jack just hate it because it has upstanding members of society in it. I know that's not (entirely) the case but still, I could see some person on the internet talking about how bad jack is because there are anthropomorphic animals.

That's, not it at all.
